RedHawks Rally Late to Edge Goldeyes

WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (23-25) dropped their second straight one-run contest, falling 4–3 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (25-25) Thursday evening at Blue Cross Park.

Fargo-Moorhead struck first in the top of the second inning when Aidan Byrne delivered an RBI single to score Alec Olund and give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

 

Winnipeg responded in the fourth. Matthew Warkentin ripped a double – one of three on the game – into the left-centre field gap to score Roby Enríquez and tie the game. Keshawn Lynch followed with a sharp single to plate Warkentin and give the Goldeyes a 2-1 edge.

 

The home side extended the lead to 3-1 in the fifth on a Ramón Bramasco sacrifice fly that brought home Andy Armstrong.

 

But the RedHawks clawed back in the seventh. A bunt single from Byrne, paired with a throwing error by Bramasco, allowed Derek Maiben to score. Later in the frame, Juan Fernández tied the game 3-3 with an RBI single to score Byrne.

 

In the ninth, it was Byrne once again making things happen—this time scoring on a go-ahead RBI single by Dillon Thomas, flipped just inside the left field line to put Fargo-Moorhead ahead 4-3.

 

Goldeyes starter Jesse Galindo took a no-decision, tossing 5.1 innings and allowing just one run on three hits with three walks and a season-high six strikeouts.

 

Derrick Cherry, Ryder Yakel, and Ben Onyshko combined for the final 3.2 innings in relief. Yakel (L, 1-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing a run on three hits over two innings.

 

RedHawks starter Orlando Rodríguez also took a no-decision, surrendering three runs (two earned) over six innings with three walks and four strikeouts. Colten Davis (W, 2-6) picked up the win with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, while Garrett Alexander (S, 4) earned his the save by retiring the only batter he faced to close out the game.

 

The clubs will begin a new series at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo Friday at 7:02 p.m. CDT Friday. Right-hander Zan Rose (2-3, 6.99 ERA) will start for the Winnipeg, while Jake Dykhoff (4-3, 1.91 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for Fargo-Moorhead.

FRANKLIN, WI – For the second time in three contests, the Winnipeg Goldeyes (22-26) unleashed an offensive barrage on the league-leading Milwaukee Milkmen, taking the series with a 14-7 victory at Franklin Field Wednesday evening. Boxscore Winnipeg opened the scoring in the top of the third inning, with third baseman Ramón Bramasco punching a base hit through the left side of the infield to bring first baseman Roby Enríquez home with the game’s first run. Two batters later, second baseman Adam Hall was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder to the plate. Designated hitter Jiandido Tromp hit a ground ball just beyond second base to score Bramasco and centre fielder Noah Marcelo , making it 4-0, before Hall crossed the plate on right fielder Max Murphy’s groundout to third base. The Goldeyes added two more runs an inning later. With two out, Marcelo lined a base hit to centre to drive in Bramasco. Marcelo then came around on Hall’s double to the wall in left field to make the score 7-0. Milwaukee (30-19) broke through in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three times. First, left fielder Justin Janas lined a double to centre that brought shortstop Delvin Pérez home. Centre fielder Alec Olund then singled to centre to score Janas, closing the gap to 7-2. Finally, second baseman Yordys Valdés brought Olund in with a base hit to left. Winnipeg quickly regained its seven-run lead in the top of the fifth, however. Catcher Kevin García hit a ground-rule double to right-centre field to plate Murphy. Didder then doubled into the gap in left-centre to score García and Enríquez, making it 10-3. The Milkmen responded again, this time pushing four runs across the plate in the bottom of the inning to make a game of it. Pérez brought third baseman Andy Blake home with a single to right. Designated hitter Wendell Marrero scored on Janas’ groundout to first base, and Olund hit a two-run home run to left field that cut the deficit to 10-7. The Goldeyes gained some much-needed breathing room in the sixth, adding a pair of runs during a bizarre inning that featured multiple walks, wild pitches, and hit batsmen. Hall raced home on a wild pitch to make it 11-7, and Didder drew a bases-loaded walk that forced left fielder Keshawn Lynch home to give Winnipeg a five-run lead. In the top of the eighth, Murphy came home on a groundout by Enríquez, and Bramasco lined a single to right that drove in García to make the score 14-7. Luke Boyd started for the Goldeyes and lasted 3 2/3 innings. He allowed three runs on six hits while walking two batters. James Bradwell was first out of the bullpen, followed by Willian Suárez (W, 2-0), who was awarded the victory in a scorer’s decision. Suárez pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up a pair of hits. Eli Saul (S, 1) worked the final three frames, limiting Milwaukee to just three hits. Edinson Batista (L, 3-4) surrendered seven runs on nine hits over four innings. FRANKLIN, WI – The Milwaukee Milkmen (30-18), the top team in the American Association, held on to defeat the Winnipeg Goldeyes 4-3 at Franklin Field Tuesday evening. Boxscore After 4 1/2 scoreless innings, Milwaukee struck first in the bottom of the fifth when left fielder Andy Blake led off the frame with a home run to left field. Winnipeg (21-26) quickly evened things in the top of the sixth. Right fielder Roby Enríquez lined a single to left field that scored second baseman Keshawn Lynch, tying the game 1-1. The Milkmen retook the lead in the seventh on designated hitter Wendell Marrero’s double to right field that drove in shortstop Delvin Pérez. Once again, the Goldeyes drew even, as designated hitter Adam Hall scampered home on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth to make it 2-2. Milwaukee went ahead 4-2 in the bottom of the inning. First, second baseman Yordys Valdés came home on a wild pitch to give the Milkmen the lead. Marrero then hit a sacrifice fly to centre field that brought in first baseman Griffin Doersching. The Goldeyes had the tying run at third base with one out, but shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder was cut down on a fielder’s choice. Neither starter factored in the decision. Goldeyes starter Mitchell Lambson worked 6 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on four hits while fanning five and issuing one walk. Brady Puckett (W, 1-0), the second Milkmen reliever of the evening, surrendered a run without allowing a hit in the eighth inning. Eli Saul, Quinn Waterhouse (L, 1-2), and Derrick Cherry appeared out of the Winnipeg bullpen. Waterhouse did not retire a batter in the eighth, giving up a pair of hits and a run. Boxscore The Goldeyes took the lead shortly after the game got underway, as shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder tripled to right field and came home on a throwing error. Before the inning was through, left fielder Keshawn Lynch belted his first home run of the season – a two-run blast to left that also scored third baseman Ramón Bramasco , making it 3-0. Winnipeg added five more runs in the second. Didder brought his Aruban countryman, designated hitter Jiandido Tromp , home with a sacrifice fly to right field. Then, centre fielder Noah Marcelo lined a double to left that drove in first baseman Kevin García and catcher Raphaël Pelletier to make the score 6-0. Second baseman Adam Hall singled to left to plate Bramasco, and Marcelo crossed the plate on Lynch’s groundout to third base, giving the Goldeyes an 8-0 lead. In the top of the third inning, García hit a home run to left with Tromp aboard, making it 10-0 Winnipeg. Milwaukee (29-18) responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Left fielder Andy Blake lined a base hit to left that brought catcher Andrew Sundean and first baseman Griffin Doersching home, cutting the deficit to 10-2. The two clubs then traded single runs over the next four innings. In the top of the fifth, Didder doubled to left driving in García before the Milkmen answered with a home run to right by designated hitter Wendell Marrero in the sixth. The Goldeyes made the score 12-3 in the seventh when Didder hit his second sacrifice fly of the contest, this one to centre field, allowing Pelletier to trot in. Once again Milwaukee replied with a run in the eighth. Shortstop Delvin Pérez doubled to centre, driving in Blake to make it 12-4. If the game wasn’t already well out of reach, Winnipeg made certain of it in the top of the ninth. Bramasco’s base hit to centre drove in Pelletier. Didder came in on Marcelo’s groundout to shortstop, and Hall’s double to right scored Bramasco for a 15-4 Goldeyes lead. Ryo Kohigashi (W, 3-2) went 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on nine hits. He struck out three and did not walk a batter. Derrick Cherry , James Bradwell , Tasker Strobel , and James Colyer gave up just two hits over the remainder of the ballgame. Juan Díaz (L, 4-3) started for the Milkmen and lasted just 2 1/3 innings. He surrendered ten runs – seven earned – on eight hits while fanning four and walking one. Boxscore Chicago scratched across a run in the bottom of the first inning when centre fielder Giovanni DiGiacomo came home on left fielder Jacob Maiben’s fielder’s choice. Winnipeg (20-25) responded with three runs in the top of the second. Left fielder Jiandido Tromp scored on a throwing error before third baseman Keshawn Lynch drove in right fielder Max Murphy with a single to centre field. Finally, Lynch came in on shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder ’s base hit up the middle that made it 3-1. The Dogs evened the score in the fourth. First baseman Tyreque Reed doubled off the wall in right field to plate catcher Jaxx Groshans, then right fielder Zack Stokes crossed the plate on second baseman Daniel Harris’ groundout to shortstop. Groshans gave Chicago a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning when he led off with a home run to left field. What had been a tight game all evening fast became a rout after that, with the Dogs scoring five times in the seventh inning and adding four in the eighth. In the seventh, designated hitter Aaron Altherr made the score 5-3 with a base hit down the third base line that brought in third baseman Derek Maiben. Groshans followed with a sacrifice fly to right that allowed shortstop Cooper Weiss to score. Stokes made it 7-3 when he lined a single to left that drove in Jacob Maiben. Lastly, Harris hit a two-run single to left that brought Altherr and Stokes around, giving the home side a 9-3 advantage. An inning later, DiGiacomo scored on Weiss’ line drive single to centre. Altherr drove in Weiss with a base hit to left and Harris doubled to centre field, plating Groshans and Stokes. Steven Lacey (W, 3-3) allowed three runs on six hits over six innings of work. The Goldeyes, however, erupted for four in the top of the seventh. First, Tromp came home on Lynch’s sacrifice fly to right. Didder then crushed a three-run homer to left with designated hitter Max Murphy and Enríquez aboard. It was his seventh of the season and it made the score 8-2. With Chicago about to bat in the bottom of the ninth inning, and weather conditions deteriorating rapidly, play was halted. After a delay of approximately 30 minutes, the game was called. WINNIPEG, MB – Winnipeg Goldeyes right-handed relievers Derrick Cherry and Eli Saul will join outfielder Noah Marcelo as West Division All-Stars for this month’s American Association All-Star Game, the league announced Wednesday. Cherry has assumed the closer’s role in 2026 and has excelled in his opportunities. The 25-year-old ranks second in the 12-team league in saves with seven and has not recorded a blown save. His 2.75 earned run average is second among Goldeyes pitchers. A native of Baytown, Texas, Cherry is in his second season in Winnipeg after previously pitching for the Rocky Mountain Vibes of the Pioneer League. Saul will join Cherry as pitchers representing the Goldeyes at the All-Star festivities. One of six Canadians on the roster, the Vancouver, British Columbia native is the team leader in ERA at 2.05 and struck out 16 batters in 22 innings pitched. The 24-year-old joined the Goldeyes after playing four seasons in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, reaching as high as Double-A on two occasions. Saul was drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 13th round of the 2022 MLB June Amateur Draft. The All-Star Game takes place Wednesday, July 15 at Haymarket Park in Lincoln, Nebraska. Boxscore Kansas City took control early, with designated hitter Luken Baker hitting a three-run home run to left field with two out in the top of the first inning to make it 3-0. The Monarchs added to that lead in the third, with first baseman Saúl Garza lining a base hit to left that drove in left fielder Nick Martini. In the top of the fourth inning, a two-run home run to left field by right fielder Trevor Boone extended Kansas City’s lead to 6-0. Winnipeg (19-24) picked up a pair of runs in the bottom of that same inning. Third baseman Ramón Bramasco came in on left fielder Adam Hall ’s base hit to left before designated hitter Jiandido Tromp singled home centre fielder Noah Marcelo to make it 6-2. There was no further scoring until the bottom of the seventh, when Bramasco doubled to right field, bringing catcher Kevin García home and reducing the Goldeyes’ deficit to 6-3. Baker led off the eighth with a home run to left, his second of the game and third of the series. That made the score 7-3 Monarchs. WINNIPEG, MB – Winnipeg Goldeyes centre fielder Noah Marcelo has been named a West Division starter for next month’s American Association All-Star Game, the league announced Tuesday. Marcelo leads the Goldeyes with ten home runs, 36 runs batted in, and 17 stolen bases. His .317 batting average ranks second on the team. The 25-year-old is third in the 12-team league in RBIs, tied for sixth in home runs, and tenth in steals. A native of Redwood City, California, Marcelo signed with the Goldeyes January 8 after being acquired from the Boise Hawks of the Pioneer League September 15, 2025. WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (19-23) split a doubleheader with the Kansas City Monarchs Tuesday at Blue Cross Park, dropping the opener 12-0 before taking the nightcap 11-3. Boxscore – Game One Boxscore – Game Two In game one, Kansas City (23-17) starter Ryan García (W, 6-2) was dominant. The right-hander threw a complete game, three-hit shutout. He struck out three and walked one. The three hits he gave up were all singles. The Monarchs took the lead in the second inning when centre fielder Hudson Head lined a single to left field that scored second baseman Austin Callahan. Two batters later, catcher Brady Lindsly doubled off the left field wall, bringing Head and right fielder Trevor Boone in to make it 3-0. In the top of the fourth, Boone came home on third baseman J.D. Davis’ single to left before Callahan hit a three-run home run to left field with Davis and first baseman Saúl Garza aboard, giving Kansas City a 7-0 advantage. They would add another four in the sixth. First, Head drew a bases-loaded walk that forced Davis in. The next hitter, Boone, hit a three-run double to right. Garza, shortstop Sahid Valenzuela, and Head all came around, and it was 11-0 Monarchs. Davis hit a solo home run to left field in the seventh to close out the scoring. Ryo Kohigashi (L, 2-2) started for Winnipeg. He went five innings and gave up seven runs on 11 hits. The lefty struck out seven and walked two. Kohigashi leads the Goldeyes’ staff with 48 strikeouts on the season. Willian Suárez and Quinn Waterhouse pitched out of the bullpen for the Goldeyes. The second game appeared to be a continuation of the opener when first baseman Luken Baker hit a three-run home run to left field in the top of the first inning. Left fielder Nick Martini and Garza were on base and Winnipeg quickly found itself down 3-0. In the bottom of the inning, the Goldeyes pulled to within one. Shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder crossed the plate as the result of a throwing error before third baseman Ramón Bramasco came in on second baseman Adam Hall ’s groundout to shortstop that made the score 3-2 in favour of Kansas City. The Goldeyes took the lead in the second frame. First baseman T.J. Schofield-Sam tied the contest with a single to right-centre that drove in right fielder Keshawn Lynch . Centre fielder Noah Marcelo then put Winnipeg ahead 4-3 with a base hit up the middle that brought Schofield-Sam in to score. Schofield-Sam drove in two more runs in the home half of the third. He hit a double down the left-field line that plated designated hitter Max Murphy and Lynch, making it 6-3 Goldeyes. Winnipeg added two more in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 8-3. Bramasco singled to right field scoring Schofield-Sam. Then Didder came home on Marcelo’s fielder’s choice. In the sixth, Hall scored on Lynch’s groundout to the pitcher, catcher Kevin García drove in left fielder Jiandido Tromp with a single to left, and Murphy scampered home on Schofield-Sam’s sacrifice fly to centre field that made it 11-3 Goldeyes. Mitchell Lambson (W, 3-4) pitched five innings and allowed three runs on five hits. The veteran struck out two and did not walk a batter. Eli Saul and Derrick Cherry split the final two innings and did not give up a hit. Jacob Gómez started for the Monarchs and lasted just 1 2/3 innings. He surrendered four runs – three earned – on three hits while issuing a pair of walks. The series concludes Wednesday with a special 4:00 p.m. Canada Day start time.
