The evening will bring together baseball fans, Legion members, veterans, military personnel and members of the community for a meaningful tribute to an organization that has supported those who have served Canada for a century. Special pre-game ceremonies will highlight the Royal Canadian Legion’s history, service and lasting impact across the country. The program will include videos representing 100 years of the Legion, tributes to Legion members and members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and a ceremonial opening pitch. The Goldeyes invite fans to arrive early and be in their seats for the pre-game presentation as Blue Cross Park recognizes the generations of Canadians who have served their country and the organization that continues to advocate for and support them. Representatives of the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund will also attend the game and host an activation on the Blue Cross Park concourse. Fans will have an opportunity to learn more about the Fund, its work in communities across Canada and the important role it plays in assisting veterans and their families. The Poppy Fund provides direct support to all Canadian Veterans and their families in times of need. Donations are raised primarily through the annual Poppy Campaign, which takes place from late October through November 11. First baseman Chance Sisco scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 3-3 before catcher Jaxx Groshans launched a two-out solo home run to left field, giving Chicago its first lead of the night. Winnipeg’s response came in the seventh. Right fielder Max Murphy scored on Didder’s sacrifice fly to right to even the score before Bramasco delivered the decisive blow. With two outs, he drove a two-run home run down the right-field line, putting the Goldeyes back in front 6-4. The Dogs continued to threaten in the eighth, trimming the deficit to one when Roselli’s infield single scored third baseman Derek Maiben. Chicago eventually put the potential tying and go-ahead runs aboard, but Winnipeg escaped the inning with its 6-5 lead intact. The Goldeyes added a valuable insurance run in the bottom half when designated hitter Jiandido Tromp lifted a sacrifice fly to centre, bringing home centre fielder Noah Marcelo and restoring Winnipeg’s two-run cushion at 7-5. Arij Fransen (W, 2-2) earned the victory in relief of starter Ryo Kohigashi , allowing just one hit over two scoreless innings beginning in the sixth. Eli Saul also worked out of the Winnipeg bullpen before Derrick Cherry (S, 14) closed the door in the ninth. Cherry issued a leadoff walk, then retired the next three batters to secure the victory. Regi Grace Jr. (L, 3-8) took the loss for Chicago after replacing Connor Lockwood in the seventh. Grace surrendered three runs on two hits, including Bramasco’s go-ahead home run. The Goldeyes will travel overnight to Lincoln, Nebraska, where they will open a three-game weekend series against the Saltdogs Friday at Haymarket Park.
