Explorers Rally Past Goldeyes in Series Finale

SIOUX CITY, IA – The Sioux City Explorers (41-45) scored three runs in the seventh inning to rally past the Winnipeg Goldeyes 4-2 Sunday afternoon at Lewis & Clark Park.
Sioux City opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning. Centre fielder Austin Davis singled to left and advanced to third on a throwing error during a steal attempt before left fielder Henry George doubled to centre to give the Explorers a 1-0 lead.
Winnipeg (46-39) answered in the top half of the third when second baseman Adam Hall hit a solo home run to left field to tie the game 1-1.
The Goldeyes moved in front in the fifth. First baseman Ramón Bramasco drew a two-out walk and Hall followed with a single. Bramasco stole third before centre fielder Noah Marcelo blooped a single to second base to score him and give Winnipeg a 2-1 lead. It was Marcelo's 83rd run batted in of the season.
Sioux City rallied for three runs in the seventh. Third baseman Yorman Rodriguez was hit by a pitch and Davis followed with a bunt single, with a throwing error allowing the runners to advance to second and third. George then walked to load the bases.
Second baseman Zac Vooletich lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Rodriguez and tie the game 2-2. After George stole second, designated hitter Braulio Vásquez hit a sacrifice fly to centre that brought Davis home. First baseman Alberto Osuna followed with a single to centre that scored George and made it 4-2.
Right-hander Landen Bourassa allowed one run on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings for Winnipeg. He walked one and struck out five. Right-hander Willian Suárez (L, 4-1) allowed three runs on two hits and one walk in two-thirds of an inning, while right-hander Eli Saul worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings without allowing a hit and struck out two.
Sioux City starter Jarod Wright allowed two runs on four hits over 5 2/3 innings, walking one and striking out five. Rob Hughes (W, 2-0) worked a scoreless inning, while Trey Morrill (S, 10) pitched a scoreless ninth.
Hall and Marcelo each had two hits for the Goldeyes. Marcelo also stole his 35th base of the season.
Winnipeg returns home Monday, August 24 to open a series against the Kansas City Monarchs at Blue Cross Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Right-hander James Colyer (3-3, 5.51 ERA) will start for the Goldeyes, while Kansas City will counter with right-hander Jimmy Endersby (5-4, 3.84 ERA).

WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (43-33) broke a 6-6 tie with five runs in the seventh inning and went on to defeat the Sioux Falls Canaries 12-6 Thursday evening at Blue Cross Park. Combined with the Kansas City Monarchs’ loss to the Lake Country DockHounds, the victory moved Winnipeg into sole possession of first place in the American Association West Division. Boxscore Sioux Falls (39-38) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Grady Mee scored on Michael Curialle’s sacrifice fly to left field. Winnipeg answered with four runs in the bottom half. Designated hitter Ray-Patrick Didder led off with a single and scored on third baseman Ramón Bramasco ’s single to right field. Centre fielder Noah Marcelo followed with a single before shortstop Keshawn Lynch doubled to left, bringing home Marcelo and second baseman Adam Hall for a 3-1 lead. Lynch later stole third and scored on an error to make it 4-1. The Canaries moved back in front in the second. After three runners reached base, Mee hit a grand slam to left field that gave Sioux Falls a 5-4 advantage. Sioux Falls added to the lead in the fourth when TJ Racherbaumer doubled home Trevor Achenbach to make it 6-4, but the Goldeyes responded again in the bottom of the inning. Boxscore Sioux Falls (39-37) opened the scoring in the first inning on a solo home run to centre field by Jabari Henry. Winnipeg answered in the bottom of the second when centre fielder Noah Marcelo singled, stole second base, and scored on a right-field single by left fielder Jiandido Tromp to tie the game 1-1. The Goldeyes moved in front in the third. Shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder drew a walk and second baseman Ramón Bramasco followed with a single before Hall lifted a sacrifice fly to right to give Winnipeg a 2-1 lead. The Canaries tied the game in the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Michael Curialle and Anthony Hall. Winnipeg quickly regained control in the bottom half. Right fielder Keshawn Lynch led off with a home run to left to put the Goldeyes back in front 3-2.
