What is an iCalendar file?


An iCalendar file ICS file, also referred to as an .ics file, is a universal file format that allows users to share event details across multiple calendar platforms, including Google Calendar, Micrososft Outlook, and Apple Calendar.


General Steps:


  1. Download/Save: Get the .ics file from an email or website and save it to your computer.
  2. Open/Import:
  • Double-click the .ics file (most apps will automatically open it in your default calendar).
  • Or, open your calendar app, find the "File" menu, and select Import (or "Import Calendar").
  1. Select File: Browse and select the .ics file you downloaded.
  2. Choose Calendar: Select which calendar (e.g., your main, work, or a new one) you want the events added to.
  3. Confirm: Click Import or OK to add the events. 


Specific Application Instructions:


Google Calendar


Open Google Calendar, go to Settings (gear icon) > Import & export, select "Import," choose the .ics file, select the target calendar, and click "Import".

Apple Calendar (Mac)


Drag the .ics file directly into the Calendar app or use File > Import, choose the file, select the destination calendar, and click OK.


Microsoft Outlook


Go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export, choose "Import an iCalendar (.ics) or vCalendar file (.vcs)," browse for your file, and follow the prompts.
