Goldeyes Explode for Seven in the Third, Down Milkmen 11-6 for Third Straight Win

WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (6-6) erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the third inning en route to an 11-6 victory over the Milwaukee Milkmen (4-6) on a pleasant Wednesday evening at Blue Cross Park. The win marks the Goldeyes’ third straight, bringing them back to .500 on the season.

Milwaukee opened the scoring early, as Micker Adolfo delivered run-scoring single in the top of the first to give the visitors a 1-0 edge. Winnipeg responded in the bottom of the second when Gustavo Sosa lined a single up the middle to score Tanner O’Tremba and tie the game at 1-1.


The game broke wide open in the bottom of the third. Matthew Warkentin ignited the Goldeyes’ offense with a two-run double to score Ramón Bramasco and Max Murphy, giving Winnipeg a 3-1 lead. Later in the inning, Evan Alexander singled home Warkentin, and Andy Armstrong added a two-run single to centre scoring O’Tremba and Alexander. Bramasco capped off the rally with a two-run single in his second at-bat of the inning, scoring Sosa and Armstrong to make it 8-1.


Winnipeg kept the pressure on in the fourth, as Sosa was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 9-1. Armstrong followed later with another RBI single to bring in O’Tremba and Alexander, extending the lead to 11-1.


Milwaukee chipped away at the deficit, scoring in the sixth on a Jaylin Davis RBI single, and in the seventh on a three-run home run to cenre field by Delvin Perez to cut the lead to 11-5. Willie Escala added an RBI single in the ninth to complete the scoring at 11-6.


Mitchell Lambson (W, 2-0) earned the win for Winnipeg with a strong outing, going six innings while allowing just two runs on six hits and striking out five. Garrett Martin (L, 0-1) suffered the loss for Milwaukee, surrendering eight runs on nine hits in just 2.2 innings of work.


Out of the bullpen, Will Sierra pitched the seventh for Winnipeg, allowing three runs on two hits. Marc-André Habeck handled the final two innings, giving up one run on two hits and striking out four. For Milwaukee, Nyan Hernandez allowed three runs in one inning, while Chase Gearing provided 4.1 innings of solid relief, yielding just two hits and one walk while striking out three.


Habeck, a Winnipeg native, was signed earlier Wednesday. He pitched for the Goldeyes in 2023 before an elbow injury cut his season short and becomes the eighth Canadian on the Goldeyes’ roster.


The series concludes Thursday morning at Blue Cross Park, with the first pitch scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Winnipeg will send right-hander Jesse Galindo (0-0, 7.11 ERA) to the mound in search of the sweep, while Milwaukee counters with right-hander Frankie Bartow (1-0, 4.50 ERA).

FARGO, ND – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (24-26) snapped their three-game losing streak with a 4–1 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (26-26) Saturday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field, evening the series at one game apiece. Boxscore The Goldeyes opened the scoring in the top of the first. A leadoff double by Jacob Robson set up an RBI fielder’s choice from Matthew Warkentin , giving Winnipeg an early 1–0 lead. In the fourth, Max Murphy launched a solo home run to double the advantage. Two innings later, Warkentin added to the lead with a solo shot of his own, making it 3–0. Fargo-Moorhead scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh on a Juan Fernández sacrifice fly that brought home Alec Olund, cutting the lead to 3–1. However, the Goldeyes restored their three-run cushion in the top of the ninth on an RBI single from Gustavo Sosa , scoring Keshawn Lynch to make it 4–1. Making a spot start, Tasker Strobel tossed four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out one. Derrick Cherry (W, 2-1) earned the victory in relief, giving up one run over 1.2 innings with two strikeouts. Ryder Yakel (S, 2) closed out the game with 2.2 scoreless frames, surrendering one walk and striking out one. Boxscore The RedHawks opened the scoring in the bottom of the second on an infield single from Juan Fernández that brought home Nicholas Northcut. Fargo extended its lead to 3-0 in the third inning when José Sermo hit a two-run home run to right field, scoring Lamar Sparks. In the fourth, Northcut added a sacrifice fly to score Dillon Thomas, followed by Fernández’s second run-scoring single of the night in the fifth that plated Derek Maiben. Aiden Byrne made it 6-0 with a sacrifice fly later in the frame. Fargo's final run came in the bottom of the eighth on Brendon Dadson’s sac fly that again scored Thomas. The Goldeyes got on the board in the top of the ninth. Ray-Patrick Didder doubled and came around to score on an a single from Gustavo Sosa . Zan Rose (L, 2-4) took the loss for Winnipeg, allowing five runs on nine hits over six innings, with five walks and three strikeouts. Boxscore Fargo-Moorhead struck first in the top of the second inning when Aidan Byrne delivered an RBI single to score Alec Olund and give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Winnipeg responded in the fourth. Matthew Warkentin ripped a double – one of three on the game – into the left-centre field gap to score Roby Enríquez and tie the game. Keshawn Lynch followed with a sharp single to plate Warkentin and give the Goldeyes a 2-1 edge. The home side extended the lead to 3-1 in the fifth on a Ramón Bramasco sacrifice fly that brought home Andy Armstrong . But the RedHawks clawed back in the seventh. A bunt single from Byrne, paired with a throwing error by Bramasco, allowed Derek Maiben to score. Later in the frame, Juan Fernández tied the game 3-3 with an RBI single to score Byrne. Boxscore The RedHawks jumped out to an early 7–0 lead, scoring five runs in the top of the second inning and two more in the third. Brendon Dadson opened the scoring with a solo home run to centre field. Later in the inning, Juan Fernández added a sacrifice fly to make it 2–0, and Dillon Thomas launched a three-run homer to extend the lead to 5–0. In the third, Aiden Byrne delivered a two-run single that brought home Hunter Clanin and Derek Maiben, giving Fargo a 7–0 advantage. Winnipeg’s offense began chipping away in the fourth inning. WINNIPEG, MB – Jacob Robson hit a pair of home runs and Mitchell Lambson twirled his second consecutive complete game as the Winnipeg Goldeyes (23-23) defeated the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (23-25) 8–5 Tuesday afternoon at Blue Cross Park. Boxscore Playing at home on Canada Day for the first time since 2019, the Goldeyes opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Roby Enríquez lined an RBI double to right-centre to bring home Max Murphy , followed by an RBI double down the left field line from Matthew Warkentin to give Winnipeg a 2-0 lead. An inning later, Tanner O’Tremba reached on a walk, setting the stage for Robson , who crushed a 458-foot home run to right-centre field—his sixth of the season—to extend the lead to 4-0. Warkentin drove in his second run of the game in the third with an RBI single that scored Murphy , and Robson added his second homer of the day in the fourth—a towering shot off the centre field videoboard—to make it 6-0 Goldeyes. With the bases loaded, Estep’s ground ball skipped past Goldeyes first baseman Matthew Warkentin , allowing Glenn Santiago and Ostberg to score. Andy Blake followed with a sacrifice fly that plated Delvin Pérez to make it 4–0. Winnipeg began to respond in the bottom of the third. Keshawn Lynch drove a single up the middle to score Andy Armstrong and cut the deficit to 4–1. SIOUX CITY, IA – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (20-22) split a doubleheader with the Sioux City Explorers (27-17) at Lewis & Clark Park Thursday evening, taking the opener by a score of 5-4 and dropping the nightcap 1-0. Boxscore – Game One Boxscore – Game Two In game one, the Goldeyes opened the scoring in the third inning when Roby Enríquez doubled off the base of the wall in right field to bring in Andy Armstrong . Enríquez would come home when the next batter, Max Murphy , hit a long single off the top of the right field fence that made it 2-0. Later in the inning Jacob Robson bounced a two-run single up the middle to drive in Murphy and Keshawn Lynch and give Winnipeg a 4-0 advantage. The lead was short-lived however, as Sioux City’s Henry George hit a grand slam home run to right field in the bottom of the third to tie the game. Neither team would score until the top of the seventh inning when Robson hit a clutch double down the right field line to score Lynch with the eventual winning run. Mitchell Lambson (W, 5-1) threw his second complete game of the season for the Goldeyes, allowing four runs on just two hits and striking out six. Brett Matthews (L, 0-1) took the loss for the Explorers, allowing the go-ahead run in the one inning he worked. The second game was a pitchers’ duel, with Sioux City starter Jared Wetherbee (W, 5-1) holding Winnipeg to only two hits while striking out eight over six innings of work. Luke Boyd (L, 1-4) started for the Goldeyes and just missed throwing the club’s second complete game of the day. He went 5.2 innings and allowed one run on five hits and also struck out eight batters. Ben Onyshko recorded the final out of the sixth inning. The lone run came in the fourth inning on a two-out single to left field by Nick Shumpert that brought in Carlos Castro. Félix Cepeda (S, 11) earned the save, fanning two of the four batters he faced in the top of the seventh. The Goldeyes return home to Blue Cross Park Friday to host the Milwaukee Milkmen at 7:00 p.m. Right-hander Jesse Galindo (2-2, 4.53 ERA) will take the mound for Winnipeg with lefty Matt Walker (1-0, 7.20 ERA) starting for Milwaukee. SIOUX CITY, IA – Wednesday’s American Association game between the Winnipeg Goldeyes and the Sioux City Explorers scheduled for Lewis & Clark Park has been postponed by impending rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader (two seven-inning games) Thursday, with the opener getting underway at 5:05 p.m. CDT. Southpaw Mitchell Lambson (4-1, 4.56 ERA) is set to start game one for Winnipeg, opposing lefty Austin Drury (2-1, 2.75 ERA) for the Explorers. The nightcap will feature Goldeyes right-hander Luke Boyd (1-3, 5.40 ERA) and Sioux City’s Zach Willeman (4-2, 2.34 ERA).
