Goldeyes Top Milkmen 3-1 in 2025 Home Opener
WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (5-6) opened their 2025 home schedule with a 3-1 victory over the Milwaukee Milkmen (4-5) Tuesday evening at Blue Cross Park.
Matthew Warkentin opened the scoring in the first inning with a bloop single down the right field line, driving in Ramón Bramasco. Milwaukee responded in the second on a fielder’s choice by Willie Escala that scored Glenn Santiago.
The tie held until the bottom of the eighth when Max Murphy’s single down the right field line reclaimed the lead for Winnipeg. Jacob Robson followed with an infield single, bringing Murphy home and stretching the lead to 3-1.
Ben Kowalski made his first start of the season for the Goldeyes, tossing six strong innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out four. Relievers Derrick Cherry, Tasker Strobel (W, 1-2), and Trevor Brigden (S, 1) combined for three scoreless frames.
Milwaukee starter Davis Welch walked six and allowed one run in five innings. Blake Purnell (L, 0-1) took the loss after giving up the go-ahead run in the eighth.
The series continues Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. CDT at Blue Cross Park with Winnipeg’s Mitchell Lambson (1-0, 4.09 ERA) set to face Milwaukee’s Garret Martin (0-0, 9.00 ERA).
The pregame show on CJNU 93.7 FM and cjnu.ca, will get underway at 6:00 p.m. The game will also be broadcast in French on Envol 91 FM with Yanick LaRoche handling the play-by-play. The video stream of all Goldeyes games is available free of charge at AABaseball.TV.
