Chicago Bats Explode as Dogs Rout Goldeyes
WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (27-39) dropped the second game of their four-game series against the Chicago Dogs (37-30) Friday evening at Blue Cross Park by a score of 13-3.
The Dogs jumped out to an early lead on the second pitch of the game when Henry Kusiak hit a solo home run to left field. Chicago added three more runs in the opening frame on an RBI double by Chance Sisco and a two-run single by Dusty Stroup to make it 4-0.
Kusiak struck again in the second inning with a two-out, solo homer to extend the lead to 5-0. In the third, back-to-back walks set the stage for Stroup, who singled home another run before a passed ball brought in Sisco to push the advantage to 7-0.
Chicago’s offense continued to surge in the fourth when Sisco hit a three-run home run and Stroup followed with a solo shot to make it 11-0.
The Goldeyes got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. With Ramón Bramasco on first, Jacob Robson lined a single into centre field that got past Dogs’ centre fielder Reggie Pruitt Jr. to score a run. A groundout by Tripp Clark added another, trimming the deficit to 11-2.
The Dogs answered in the eighth, scoring twice on an RBI infield single by Stroup and a ball that glanced off Bramasco’s glove at third to make it 13-2.
Kevin García closed out the scoring with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth for Winnipeg.
Chicago starter Jack Nedrow (2-1) earned the win, allowing two unearned runs on three hits over seven innings with one walk and six strikeouts. He was followed by Michael Vallone, who worked one inning and gave up one earned run on one hit, one walk, and a strikeout, and Trey Braithwaite, who closed out the game with a scoreless ninth, striking out three while allowing two hits.
