Bramasco Homer Not Enough in Loss to Kansas City
WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (25-32) dropped the second of a three-game series to the Kansas City Monarchs (36-21) Saturday evening, falling 5-2 at Blue Cross Park.
Kansas City opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. Álvaro González reached base and scored on a Josh Bissonette sacrifice fly to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead. In the fourth, Alex McGarry launched a two-run home run to right field with González aboard to extend the advantage to 3-0.
The Monarchs added two more runs in the fifth. With the bases loaded, Jaylyn Williams scored on a wild pitch before González grounded into a fielder’s choice that brought John Nogowski across the plate.
The Goldeyes began chipping away at the deficit in the bottom of the fifth. Tanner O’Tremba led off with a triple and scored on a Gustavo Sosa fielder’s choice to make it 5-1. An inning later, Ramón Bramasco hit his fourth home run of the season with a solo shot down the right field line to cut the lead to 5-2.
Kansas City starter Julian Garcia (W, 6-1) earned the win with a dominant performance. The right-hander struck out ten over seven innings, allowing just two runs on four hits with two walks. Leam Mendez recorded one out in the eighth with a walk and a strikeout, while Josh Bortka (S, 1) secured the save with a scoreless ninth inning that included two strikeouts.
Zan Rose (L, 2-5) took the loss for Winnipeg, surrendering five runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings. He walked four and struck out two. The Goldeyes’ bullpen was strong over the final 4.1 innings. Ben Onyshko allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two in 2.1 innings. Ryder Yakel escaped a bases-loaded situation in the eighth, and Joe Jaco pitched a scoreless ninth.
The Goldeyes look to salvage the finale of the three-game set Sunday at 1:00 p.m. CDT. Right-hander James Bradwell (0-1, 13.50 ERA) will start for Winnipeg, while Kansas City counters with Daniel Martínez (3-4, 4.47 ERA).
