Photo Credit: Ben Helland/Sioux Falls Canaries SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries (42-41) hit three home runs over the first four innings and defeated the Winnipeg Goldeyes 9-4 at Sioux Falls Stadium Wednesday evening. Boxscore Sioux Falls jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning against right-hander James Colyer . Cam Hassert singled and Josh Rehwaldt doubled before Mike Hart doubled to centre field to bring Hassert home. Michael Curialle followed with a groundout that scored Rehwaldt. Trevor Achenbach extended the lead to 3-0 with a solo home run to right field in the second. Winnipeg (45-36) got on the board in the top of the third. Peyton Holt singled and Ramón Bramasco doubled before Adam Hall grounded out to score Holt. Hart restored the Canaries’ three-run advantage in the bottom half with a solo home run to centre field that made it 4-1. The Goldeyes pulled to within a run in the fourth. Keshawn Lynch drew a leadoff walk and Raphaël Pelletier singled before Max Murphy drove Lynch home with a base hit to centre field. Pelletier later scored on a throwing error after Holt put the ball in play, cutting the deficit to 4-3. Sioux Falls answered immediately. Anthony Hall singled to open the bottom of the fourth before Scott Combs hit a two-run home run to left field, giving the Canaries a 6-3 lead. Jabari Henry singled home Combs in the sixth to make it 7-3, and Sioux Falls added another run in the seventh to increase the margin to five. Winnipeg got one run back in the eighth when Kevin García grounded out to bring Lynch home, making it 8-4. Hart completed the scoring in the bottom half with an RBI double that plated Rehwaldt. Nicholai Arbach (W, 2-1) allowed three runs – two earned – on seven hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out two. Colyer (L, 3-3) surrendered six runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings, striking out two without issuing a walk. Left-hander Tasker Strobel , who was activated earlier Wednesday, struck out two in a scoreless inning in his first appearance since July 27 at Kansas City. Charlie Hasty (S, 16) recorded the final three outs for Sioux Falls. The Goldeyes finished with 11 hits. Bramasco went two-for-three with a double and two walks, while centre fielder Noah Marcelo and Pelletier had two hits apiece. Hall’s first-inning triple was his sixth of the season, extending his team lead. The series concludes Thursday at 6:35 p.m. Winnipeg will send right-hander James Bradwell (0-4, 12.51 ERA) to the mound against Sioux Falls left-hander Thomas Dorminy (6-1, 4.97 ERA).
