Goldeyes Shut Out Lincoln to Win Fourth Straight

LINCOLN, NE – For the first time since July 7th-8th of last year the Winnipeg Goldeyes (17-24) have pitched back-to-back shutouts as they defeated the Lincoln Saltdogs (19-21) 4-0 on Tuesday at Haymarket Park. Last year were shutouts against Sioux City and Fargo-Moorhead respectively. The Goldeyes have won four straight games for the first time in 2023.

Tuesday night it was Winnipeg starter Luis Ramirez (3-4) who dealt zeroes for six innings. He gave up two hits, walked three, and struck out four.  Cam Opp worked one frame and Tyler Jandron the last two. It was Ramirez' first win since a seven-inning relief outing on May 28th against Sioux Falls. Going back to his last start against Lincoln last week, he's pitched 11 straight scoreless innings.
 
Designated hitter Max Murphy (13) for the second straight night gave Winnipeg all the runs they needed with a first inning homer. This was a solo clout to left field. He's homered in three straight games (four overall in that span) and five round trippers over the last five games he's appeared. Four of Murphy's homers this year have come against Lincoln in addition to having 13 RBI's in five games against the Saltdogs. He's second in the league in homers and is in the top five in RBI's with 41.
 
Winnipeg added another run in the second inning on a two-out single by third baseman Dayson Croes, that made it 2-0 Goldeyes. Croes extended his hitting streak to ten.
 
In the eighth, Winnipeg added two runs against Lincoln lefty reliever Steffon Moore, The Goldeyes built their rally on a two-out walk by first baseman Tommy McCarthy. Following him, right fielder Najee Gaskins ripped an RBI double to left which made it 3-0. After walks to left fielder Javeyan Williams, and second baseman Brynn Martinez, center fielder Tra Holmes walked on a full count to make it 4-0.
 
Coming into the night, Lincoln starter Josh Roeder (2-5) was eighth in the American Association in ERA at 3.14 coming into the game but Winnipeg scored two runs against him in five innings. He struck out a season-high for him seven in defeat.
 
Game three of this scheduled four-game series will be Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Winnipeg native Marc-André Habeck (1-1) will start for the Goldeyes against Lincoln left-hander Abdallah Aris (2-1).

Winnipeg returns home to Shaw Park Friday, July 7 when they will host the Milwaukee Milkmen.

Boxscore Winnipeg opened the scoring in the opening frame when centre fielder Noah Marcelo singled up the middle to drive in shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder . Chicago (14-29) quickly evened things up however, as centre fielder Giovanni DiGiacomo led off the bottom of the inning with a home run to centre that made it 1-1. First baseman Roby Enríquez gave the Goldeyes a 3-1 lead in the third inning with a two-out single to left that scored second baseman Adam Hall and left fielder Jiandido Tromp . Tromp crossed the plate again in the fifth, on a single to left off the bat of right fielder Keshawn Lynch that made it 4-1 Winnipeg. The Dogs got a run back in the sixth when designated hitter Aaron Altherr lined a single to left that plated Daniel Harris and reduced the deficit to 4-2. The Goldeyes, however, erupted for four in the top of the seventh. First, Tromp came home on Lynch’s sacrifice fly to right. Didder then crushed a three-run homer to left with designated hitter Max Murphy and Enríquez aboard. It was his seventh of the season and it made the score 8-2. With Chicago about to bat in the bottom of the ninth inning, and weather conditions deteriorating rapidly, play was halted. After a delay of approximately 30 minutes, the game was called. Luke Boyd (W, 5-2) started for Winnipeg. The right-hander, battling through illness in hot and humid conditions, worked five innings and gave up one run on three hits. He struck out five and walked three. Willian Suárez , Quinn Waterhouse , Eli Saul , and James Colyer each made appearances in relief. Five Goldeyes had two-hit games, including Tromp, who scored three runs. The series continues Saturday at 6:30 p.m. with lefty Kevin Vaupel (1-2, 7.36 ERA) scheduled to start for Winnipeg. WINNIPEG, MB – Winnipeg Goldeyes right-handed relievers Derrick Cherry and Eli Saul will join outfielder Noah Marcelo as West Division All-Stars for this month’s American Association All-Star Game, the league announced Wednesday. Cherry has assumed the closer’s role in 2026 and has excelled in his opportunities. The 25-year-old ranks second in the 12-team league in saves with seven and has not recorded a blown save. His 2.75 earned run average is second among Goldeyes pitchers. A native of Baytown, Texas, Cherry is in his second season in Winnipeg after previously pitching for the Rocky Mountain Vibes of the Pioneer League. Saul will join Cherry as pitchers representing the Goldeyes at the All-Star festivities. One of six Canadians on the roster, the Vancouver, British Columbia native is the team leader in ERA at 2.05 and struck out 16 batters in 22 innings pitched. The 24-year-old joined the Goldeyes after playing four seasons in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, reaching as high as Double-A on two occasions. Saul was drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 13th round of the 2022 MLB June Amateur Draft. The All-Star Game takes place Wednesday, July 15 at Haymarket Park in Lincoln, Nebraska. WINNIPEG, MB – The Kansas City Monarchs (24-17) spoiled the Winnipeg Goldeyes’ Canada Day celebrations with a 7-3 victory over the home side at Blue Cross Park Wednesday. Boxscore Kansas City took control early, with designated hitter Luken Baker hitting a three-run home run to left field with two out in the top of the first inning to make it 3-0. The Monarchs added to that lead in the third, with first baseman Saúl Garza lining a base hit to left that drove in left fielder Nick Martini. In the top of the fourth inning, a two-run home run to left field by right fielder Trevor Boone extended Kansas City’s lead to 6-0. Winnipeg (19-24) picked up a pair of runs in the bottom of that same inning. Third baseman Ramón Bramasco came in on left fielder Adam Hall ’s base hit to left before designated hitter Jiandido Tromp singled home centre fielder Noah Marcelo to make it 6-2. There was no further scoring until the bottom of the seventh, when Bramasco doubled to right field, bringing catcher Kevin García home and reducing the Goldeyes’ deficit to 6-3. WINNIPEG, MB – Winnipeg Goldeyes centre fielder Noah Marcelo has been named a West Division starter for next month’s American Association All-Star Game, the league announced Tuesday. Marcelo leads the Goldeyes with ten home runs, 36 runs batted in, and 17 stolen bases. His .317 batting average ranks second on the team. The 25-year-old is third in the 12-team league in RBIs, tied for sixth in home runs, and tenth in steals. A native of Redwood City, California, Marcelo signed with the Goldeyes January 8 after being acquired from the Boise Hawks of the Pioneer League September 15, 2025. Marcelo hit .351 for the Hawks in 2025, with 12 home runs and 75 runs batted in, leading the Pioneer League with 64 stolen bases. The All-Star Game takes place Wednesday, July 15 in Lincoln, Nebraska. WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (19-23) split a doubleheader with the Kansas City Monarchs Tuesday at Blue Cross Park, dropping the opener 12-0 before taking the nightcap 11-3. Boxscore – Game One Boxscore – Game Two In game one, Kansas City (23-17) starter Ryan García (W, 6-2) was dominant. The right-hander threw a complete game, three-hit shutout. He struck out three and walked one. The three hits he gave up were all singles. The Monarchs took the lead in the second inning when centre fielder Hudson Head lined a single to left field that scored second baseman Austin Callahan. Two batters later, catcher Brady Lindsly doubled off the left field wall, bringing Head and right fielder Trevor Boone in to make it 3-0. In the top of the fourth, Boone came home on third baseman J.D. Davis’ single to left before Callahan hit a three-run home run to left field with Davis and first baseman Saúl Garza aboard, giving Kansas City a 7-0 advantage. They would add another four in the sixth. First, Head drew a bases-loaded walk that forced Davis in. The next hitter, Boone, hit a three-run double to right. Garza, shortstop Sahid Valenzuela, and Head all came around, and it was 11-0 Monarchs. Davis hit a solo home run to left field in the seventh to close out the scoring. Ryo Kohigashi (L, 2-2) started for Winnipeg. He went five innings and gave up seven runs on 11 hits. The lefty struck out seven and walked two. Kohigashi leads the Goldeyes’ staff with 48 strikeouts on the season. Willian Suárez and Quinn Waterhouse pitched out of the bullpen for the Goldeyes. The second game appeared to be a continuation of the opener when first baseman Luken Baker hit a three-run home run to left field in the top of the first inning. Left fielder Nick Martini and Garza were on base and Winnipeg quickly found itself down 3-0. In the bottom of the inning, the Goldeyes pulled to within one. Shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder crossed the plate as the result of a throwing error before third baseman Ramón Bramasco came in on second baseman Adam Hall ’s groundout to shortstop that made the score 3-2 in favour of Kansas City. The Goldeyes took the lead in the second frame. First baseman T.J. Schofield-Sam tied the contest with a single to right-centre that drove in right fielder Keshawn Lynch . Centre fielder Noah Marcelo then put Winnipeg ahead 4-3 with a base hit up the middle that brought Schofield-Sam in to score. Schofield-Sam drove in two more runs in the home half of the third. He hit a double down the left-field line that plated designated hitter Max Murphy and Lynch, making it 6-3 Goldeyes. Winnipeg added two more in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 8-3. Bramasco singled to right field scoring Schofield-Sam. Then Didder came home on Marcelo’s fielder’s choice. In the sixth, Hall scored on Lynch’s groundout to the pitcher, catcher Kevin García drove in left fielder Jiandido Tromp with a single to left, and Murphy scampered home on Schofield-Sam’s sacrifice fly to centre field that made it 11-3 Goldeyes. Mitchell Lambson (W, 3-4) pitched five innings and allowed three runs on five hits. The veteran struck out two and did not walk a batter. Eli Saul and Derrick Cherry split the final two innings and did not give up a hit. Jacob Gómez started for the Monarchs and lasted just 1 2/3 innings. WINNIPEG, MB – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (18-21) avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of their Red River rivals with a 5-1 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Blue Cross Park. Boxscore Fargo-Moorhead took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when designated hitter Dillon Thomas lined a double to left field that drove in left fielder Jairus Richards. The RedHawks increased their lead in the second. A balk was charged to Goldeyes starter James Colyer , allowing centre fielder Cole Yearsley to score from third base. There was no further scoring until the top of the seventh inning. Catcher Tripp Clark hit a two-out double to left field that brought in right fielder Andy Nelson to make it 3-0 Fargo-Moorhead. Yearsley added a base hit to right with two out in the eighth that scored first baseman José Sermo and second baseman Colby Wilkerson and gave the RedHawks a five-run advantage. Winnipeg (18-22) finally got on the board in the bottom of the inning when centre fielder Noah Marcelo came home on a fielder’s choice off the bat of left fielder Jiandido Tromp that trimmed Fargo-Moorhead’s lead to 5-1. Kolby Kiser (W, 2-2) pitched five scoreless innings for the RedHawks, giving up just four hits. He struck out two and walked two. Four relievers combined to limit the Goldeyes to just three hits the rest of the way. Colyer (L, 0-2) made spot start for Winnipeg, working three innings and surrendering two runs – one earned – on two hits. The right-hander struck out six and walked a pair. Weston Lombard , Dominic Hambley , Quinn Waterhouse , and Willian Suárez appeared out of the bullpen. Marcelo and second baseman Adam Hall , with two hits apiece, accounted for four of the Goldeyes’ seven hits on the afternoon. Hall improved his team-leading batting average to .361. WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (18-21) defeated the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 9-5 at Blue Cross Park Saturday evening. Boxscore After two scoreless innings, Winnipeg shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder led off the bottom of the third by smacking his sixth home run of the season to left field to make the score 1-0 Goldeyes. Winnipeg added two more runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead. First, left fielder Roby Enríquez doubled to right-centre field, and designated hitter Jiandido Tromp came in. A batter later, second baseman Keshawn Lynch lifted a sacrifice fly to centre field that brought in right fielder Max Murphy . Fargo-Moorhead (17-21) got one back in the fifth when third baseman Brian Fuentes scored from third on a failed pickoff attempt at first base. The Goldeyes put four runs on the board in the bottom of the inning. Tromp lined a single to right field that drove in third baseman Ramón Bramasco to make the score 4-1. Murphy was then walked with the bases loaded, forcing in centre fielder Noah Marcelo . Lynch drew a second walk with the bases full, allowing catcher Raphaël Pelletier to score. Finally, Didder was hit by a pitch with the bases still loaded, bringing Murphy home to give Winnipeg a 7-1 lead. The RedHawks got all four of those runs back in the sixth – all with two out. Second baseman Colby Wilkerson lined a base hit to centre field that drove in first baseman José Sermo. Shortstop Aidan Byrne also singled to centre, bringing in Fuentes. Centre fielder Cole Yearsley then singled up the middle to bring home Wilkerson. A throwing error on the same play allowed Byrne to score, making it 7-5 Goldeyes. Winnipeg added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning. Murphy brought Tromp in with a single to left before Lynch singled off the body of Fargo-Moorhead pitcher Drew Girtz. Goldeyes left fielder Jiandido Tromp evened the score in the bottom of the frame with a double off the wall in left field that brought in right fielder Adam Hall . Winnipeg moved ahead in the third when second baseman Kevin García crossed the plate on double play ball off the bat of centre fielder Noah Marcelo , making the score 2-1 for the home side. The RedHawks tied the contest in the top of the fourth on a single to right field by catcher Juan Fernández that drove in Wilkerson. They went in front 3-2 a batter later when left fielder Andy Nelson came around on right fielder Dillon Thomas’ double to right-centre. Goldeyes catcher Raphaël Pelletier once again leveled the score in the bottom of the inning with a double to right-centre field that drove in designated hitter Max Murphy to make it 3-3. An inning later, Winnipeg took a 4-3 lead after Marcelo lined a single to shallow centre that plated shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder . That score held until the top of the eighth when Nelson scored on a two-out throwing error to make it 4-4. In the home half of the inning pinch runner Keshawn Lynch scored the go-ahead run when Didder grounded out to shortstop. Third baseman Ramón Bramasco then tripled to right field to bring home Pelletier to make it 6-4. Finally, Hall lined a single to centre that allowed Bramasco to score the game’s final run. Willian Suárez (W, 1-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Tasker Strobel . Suárez allowed an unearned run on one hit in an inning of work, while Strobel went 5 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on eight hits. He struck out six and walked three batters. Eli Saul , and Derrick Cherry (S, 7) also appeared for the Goldeyes, with Cherry pitching around a pair of hits in the ninth and benefitting from a game-ending, unassisted double play turned by Didder. Reliever Mason Pelio (L, 0-3) was charged with the loss. The fourth Fargo-Moorhead reliever of the evening surrendered two runs on a hit in 1 1/3 innings. Starter Patrick Wicklander exited after four-plus innings. He allowed four runs on seven hits, while striking out three and walking four. The series continues Saturday at 6:00 p.m. when right-hander Luke Boyd (3-2, 4.75 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Goldeyes. Fargo-Moorhead is expected to counter with Wyatt Cheney (0-2, 5.13 ERA). Photo Credit: Tim Tushla/Sioux City Explorers SIOUX CITY, IA – The Sioux City Explorers (17-20) defeated the Winnipeg Goldeyes 9-7 at Lewis & Clark Park Thursday evening, taking the rubber match of a three-game series. Boxscore Sioux City jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead. Designated hitter Braulio Vásquez opened the scoring with a base hit to right field that drove in centre fielder Austin Davis and third baseman Zac Vooletich. Right fielder D’Shawn Knowles then hit a sacrifice fly to centre that brought left fielder Henry George in to score, before Vásquez crossed the plate on a fielder’s choice off the bat of second baseman Jackson Van De Brake. Winnipeg (16-21) evened the score in the top of the fourth. Centre fielder Noah Marcelo tripled to right field to lead off the frame. He would come home on second baseman Adam Hall ’s double to left. Right fielder Max Murphy singled to centre to bring Hall in, and catcher Kevin García drove in Murphy and designated hitter Jiandido Tromp with a base hit up the middle. The Explorers wasted no time retaking the lead, however. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Vooletich scored on George’s double to right field that made it 5-4. Sioux City increased its lead to two runs in the sixth when first baseman Alberto Osuna doubled to centre to drive in George. Three more runs for the Explorers in the seventh inning seemingly put the game out of reach. Davis plated Van De Brake with a single to left that made the score 7-4, then a throwing error allowed shortstop Elliot Good and Davis to come home, giving the home side a five-run cushion. The Goldeyes though did not go down without a fight. Three consecutive doubles to start the ninth inning by García, first baseman Roby Enríquez , and shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder trimmed the deficit to 9-6. Didder later scored on Hall’s fielder’s choice to bring the Goldeyes within two. For the second time in three games, Winnipeg brought the tying run to the plate in the final inning, but the ballgame ended when Murphy lined into a double play. Josh Landry (W, 2-4) started for Sioux City and exited after the sixth inning. He gave up four runs on eight hits while striking out five and walking a pair. Trey Morrill (S, 1) snuffed out the Goldeyes’ rally in the ninth, recording the final three outs. Mitchell Lambson (L, 2-4) allowed five runs on eight hits in five innings of work. He struck out one and walked six batters. James Colyer , Quinn Waterhouse , Derrick Cherry , and Dominic Hambley appeared in relief for the Goldeyes, who issued a season-high 13 free passes on the evening. Marcelo and García had three hits apiece for Winnipeg, who outhit the Explorers 13-11. The Goldeyes return home to meet the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Blue Cross Park Friday at 7:00 p.m. Tasker Strobel (2-1, 6.75 ERA) is expected to start for Winnipeg, while fellow left-hander Patrick Wicklander (2-1, 5.84 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for Fargo-Moorhead.
