WINNIPEG, MB — The Winnipeg Goldeyes Baseball Club is proud to announce a special celebration recognizing the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion during its home game against the Kansas City Monarchs Monday, August 24. The evening will bring together baseball fans, Legion members, veterans, military personnel and members of the community for a meaningful tribute to an organization that has supported those who have served Canada for a century. Special pre-game ceremonies will highlight the Royal Canadian Legion’s history, service and lasting impact across the country. The program will include videos representing 100 years of the Legion, tributes to Legion members and members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and a ceremonial opening pitch. The Goldeyes invite fans to arrive early and be in their seats for the pre-game presentation as Blue Cross Park recognizes the generations of Canadians who have served their country and the organization that continues to advocate for and support them. Representatives of the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund will also attend the game and host an activation on the Blue Cross Park concourse. Fans will have an opportunity to learn more about the Fund, its work in communities across Canada and the important role it plays in assisting veterans and their families. The Poppy Fund provides direct support to all Canadian Veterans and their families in times of need. Donations are raised primarily through the annual Poppy Campaign, which takes place from late October through November 11. All donations to the Poppy Fund are held in trust and are used to support initiatives such as disability claim assistance, medical needs, housing support and food security. The Saltdogs added two more runs in the third on a pair of solo home runs. WINNIPEG, MB – Winnipeg Goldeyes ace Luke Boyd was named the American Association’s Pitcher of the Week for the period ending August 2, the league announced Monday. Boyd delivered a gem in his lone start of the week, leading the Goldeyes to a 3-1 victory over the Kansas City Monarchs at Legends Field. The right-hander pitched eight innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out eight. The 28-year-old is 7-3 this season with a 4.31 earned run average and 46 strikeouts. His 77 1/3 innings pitched are the most on the staff. Now in his second season with Winnipeg, Boyd re-signed with the club January 14 after making 17 starts in 2025. He posted a 5-10 record with a 4.53 ERA over 95 1/3 innings. The Ojai, California, native was originally selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 38th round of the 2019 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft out of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, but chose to return to college. He re-entered the draft in 2021 and was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 17th round. Boyd spent three seasons in the Padres’ organization, reaching High-A with the Fort Wayne TinCaps in 2021 and 2022. He joined the Cleburne Railroaders in 2023, playing under current Goldeyes manager Logan Watkins . Boyd spent parts of three seasons with Cleburne and also made a stop with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in 2024. Boyd has compiled a career record of 22-22 with a 4.60 ERA in 118 appearances, including 44 starts.
