Goldeyes Fall to Fargo-Moorhead Once Again

WINNIPEG, MB – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (24-14) downed the Winnipeg Goldeyes 6-3 on a very wet Saturday evening at Blue Cross Park. It was the fifth consecutive loss for Winnipeg.

The Goldeyes (19-20) opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning during one of the game’s more intense periods of rain. Second baseman Ramón Bramasco lined a single to left field that brought centre fielder Miles Simington and right fielder Roby Enríquez home to give Winnipeg a 2-0 lead.

 

Fargo-Moorhead quickly responded in their next at-bat, however. First baseman Drew Ward cut the Winnipeg lead to 2-1 when he scored on a throwing error, then third baseman C.J. Valdez crossed the plate on catcher Dakota Phillips’ ground out to second to tie the contest. Finally, the RedHawks went ahead 3-2 when centre fielder Kona Quiggle scored on shortstop Sam Dexter’s sacrifice fly to left field.

 

The visitors tacked on two more in the seventh. First Phillips singled to right, driving in Quiggle, then Dexter brought Phillips in with a double to left field.

 

The RedHawks added another run in the eighth inning when second baseman Peter Brookshaw trotted home on Ward’s sacrifice fly to left.

 

Winnipeg got one back in the bottom of the inning on Simington’s sacrifice fly to right field that drove in designated hitter Max Murphy.

 

Colten Davis (W, 4-1) went seven innings for Fargo-Moorhead, and allowed two runs on seven hits. He struck out six and walked three. Alex DuBord (S, 9) retired the Goldeyes in order in the ninth to earn his second save in as many evenings.

 

Marshall Kasowski (L, 1-1) started for Winnipeg and worked 6.1 innings. He surrendered five runs – three earned – on five hits while fanning eight and walking one. Travis Seabrooke pitched the remainder of the game and gave up one run on three hits.

 

The homestand concludes Sunday at 1:00 p.m. CDT with Landen Bourassa (2-3, 2.73 ERA) getting the start for the Goldeyes. The RedHawks will counter with fellow right-hander Kolby Kiser (2-1, 6.00 ERA).

Boxscore Winnipeg opened the scoring in the top of the third inning. Right fielder Max Murphy doubled to centre field and first baseman Kevin García singled to right before designated hitter Ray-Patrick Didder hit a three-run home run to left field to give the Goldeyes a 3-0 lead. It was Didder’s team-leading 19th home run of the season. Sioux City (40-45) answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Second baseman Zac Vooletich singled and stole second before left fielder Henry George singled to right. Designated hitter Braulio Vásquez then singled to right to score Vooletich, and first baseman Alberto Osuna followed with a two-run double to centre that tied the game 3-3. Shortstop Jackson Van De Brake’s single to centre brought Osuna home and put the Explorers ahead 4-3. The Goldeyes responded with seven runs in the fifth. Third baseman Ramón Bramasco walked and second baseman Adam Hall singled before centre fielder Noah Marcelo launched a three-run home run to left field to give Winnipeg a 6-4 lead. It was Marcelo’s 16th home run of the season and increased his RBI total to 82. Shortstop Keshawn Lynch walked and catcher Raphaël Pelletier singled before left fielder Jiandido Tromp drove Lynch home with a single to right. Didder followed with an RBI single to right that scored Pelletier, and Bramasco capped the inning with a two-run single to left that brought Tromp and Didder home and stretched the lead to 10-4. Sioux City pulled to within three in the bottom of the sixth when Van De Brake hit a three-run home run to left field, making the score 10-7. Winnipeg added a run in the seventh when Didder was hit by a pitch and scored on Bramasco’s single to centre. Murphy then led off the eighth with a solo home run to centre field to account for the final 12-7 margin. Left-hander Kevin Vaupel (W, 4-5) allowed seven runs, six earned, on nine hits over five innings. He walked one and struck out one. The Goldeyes’ bullpen kept Sioux City off the scoreboard the rest of the way. Aidan Newton worked 1 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out two. Sage Ferguson followed with two scoreless innings, surrendering two hits and striking out three without issuing a walk. After right fielder D'Shawn Knowles walked to load the bases, catcher Wilfredo Giménez lined a two-run single to right that brought designated hitter Braulio Vásquez and Osuna home. Sioux City added two runs in the second when second baseman Zac Vooletich doubled and George followed with a single to centre that scored third baseman Zane Denton and Vooletich, extending the lead to 5-0. The Goldeyes answered with three runs in the top of the third. Right fielder Max Murphy walked and moved to second on a wild pitch before second baseman Peyton Holt singled to right to score Murphy. Boxscore Sioux Falls opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning. Second baseman Trevor Achenbach singled before catcher TJ Racherbaumer reached with a base hit, and centre fielder Joe Vos followed with a single to left field that brought Achenbach home. The Canaries extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth. Achenbach singled and Vos followed with a two-run home run to right field. Winnipeg (45-37) cut the deficit to one with a pair of runs in the fifth. Second baseman Peyton Holt scored on left fielder Adam Hall ’s single to left field, and third baseman Ramón Bramasco came home when centre fielder Noah Marcelo followed with another base hit to left. Cam Hassert singled and Josh Rehwaldt doubled before Mike Hart doubled to centre field to bring Hassert home. Michael Curialle followed with a groundout that scored Rehwaldt. Trevor Achenbach extended the lead to 3-0 with a solo home run to right field in the second. Winnipeg (45-36) got on the board in the top of the third. Peyton Holt singled and Ramón Bramasco doubled before Adam Hall grounded out to score Holt. Boxscore Winnipeg opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. Marcelo led off with a double to left field, while third baseman Keshawn Lynch and catcher Raphaël Pelletier each drew a walk. With the bases loaded and two out, second baseman Peyton Holt walked to force Marcelo home and give the Goldeyes a 1-0 lead. The Goldeyes added two runs in the third. First baseman Ramón Bramasco and shortstop Adam Hall singled before Marcelo loaded the bases with a base hit to centre field. Lynch followed with a single to right that brought Bramasco and Hall home to make it 3-0. Winnipeg broke the game open with four runs in the fourth inning. Holt doubled to centre and scored on Hall’s single to right. Marcelo then doubled to left, driving in Bramasco and Hall, before scoring on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 7-0. Boxscore Sioux City (38-42) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Henry George hit a solo home run to right field. The Explorers doubled their advantage in the fourth. Alberto Osuna singled and D’Shawn Knowles doubled before Jackson Van De Brake lifted a sacrifice fly to centre field that scored Osuna and made it 2-0. Winnipeg broke through in the sixth. WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes’ franchise-record 12-game home winning streak came to an end Friday evening with a 4-3 loss to the Sioux City Explorers (37-41) at Blue Cross Park. Boxscore Sioux City struck for three runs in the top of the first inning. Braulio Vásquez singled home Austin Davis before Alberto Osuna drove in Henry George with a base hit to right field. Yorman Rodríguez followed with a run-scoring groundout that brought Vásquez home and gave the Explorers a 3-0 lead. The visitors added to their advantage in the fourth. Zane Denton singled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Davis to make it 4-0. Winnipeg (43-34) began to chip away in the bottom half of the inning. Second baseman Adam Hall singled and stole second before centre fielder Noah Marcelo lined an RBI single to centre field. The Goldeyes pulled to within one in the fifth. Left fielder Jiandido Tromp singled to right field and first baseman Kevin García followed with a base hit to centre. WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (43-33) broke a 6-6 tie with five runs in the seventh inning and went on to defeat the Sioux Falls Canaries 12-6 Thursday evening at Blue Cross Park. Combined with the Kansas City Monarchs’ loss to the Lake Country DockHounds, the victory moved Winnipeg into sole possession of first place in the American Association West Division. Boxscore Sioux Falls (39-38) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Grady Mee scored on Michael Curialle’s sacrifice fly to left field. Winnipeg answered with four runs in the bottom half. Designated hitter Ray-Patrick Didder led off with a single and scored on third baseman Ramón Bramasco ’s single to right field. Centre fielder Noah Marcelo followed with a single before shortstop Keshawn Lynch doubled to left, bringing home Marcelo and second baseman Adam Hall for a 3-1 lead. Lynch later stole third and scored on an error to make it 4-1. The Canaries moved back in front in the second. After three runners reached base, Mee hit a grand slam to left field that gave Sioux Falls a 5-4 advantage. Sioux Falls added to the lead in the fourth when TJ Racherbaumer doubled home Trevor Achenbach to make it 6-4, but the Goldeyes responded again in the bottom of the inning. Didder singled and scored on Hall’s base hit to left. Hall then stole second before Marcelo doubled to left to tie the game 6-6. The score remained even until Winnipeg broke through in the seventh. Hall and Marcelo opened the inning with singles and executed a double steal before Canaries reliever Will Levine balked home Hall with the go-ahead run. Left fielder Jiandido Tromp followed with an base hit to left field that scored Marcelo and extended the lead to 8-6. Right fielder Max Murphy singled before first baseman Kevin García delivered the decisive blow, a three-run home run to right field that pushed Winnipeg’s advantage to 11-6. The Goldeyes added their final run in the eighth when Bramasco doubled and Lynch drove him in with his second double of the night. Left-hander Ryo Kohigashi started for Winnipeg and allowed six earned runs on four hits over five innings, striking out five and walking three. Right-hander Aidan Newton (W, 3-0) followed with two scoreless innings, surrendering one hit while striking out one and walking one. Quinn Waterhouse and Willian Suárez each worked a scoreless inning to finish the game. Levine (L, 4-5) was charged with four earned runs on four hits over two-thirds of an inning. Winnipeg finished with 16 hits. Marcelo went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base, while Didder was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Boxscore Sioux Falls (39-37) opened the scoring in the first inning on a solo home run to centre field by Jabari Henry. Winnipeg answered in the bottom of the second when centre fielder Noah Marcelo singled, stole second base, and scored on a right-field single by left fielder Jiandido Tromp to tie the game 1-1. The Goldeyes moved in front in the third. Shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder drew a walk and second baseman Ramón Bramasco followed with a single before Hall lifted a sacrifice fly to right to give Winnipeg a 2-1 lead. The Canaries tied the game in the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Michael Curialle and Anthony Hall. Winnipeg quickly regained control in the bottom half. Right fielder Keshawn Lynch led off with a home run to left to put the Goldeyes back in front 3-2. Two batters later, designated hitter Max Murphy hit a solo home run to right to extend the lead to 4-2. Didder led off the fifth with a home run to left for a 5-2 advantage. Hall then doubled to centre and scored on Marcelo’s single up the middle to make it 6-2. Right-hander Landen Bourassa worked five strong innings before Sioux Falls cut into the lead in the sixth. A bases-loaded walk to Joe Vos brought home a run to make it 6-3, and a hit batter forced in another to pull the Canaries within 6-4. Right-hander Eli Saul came on and struck out Henry to end the inning and preserve Winnipeg’s two-run lead. The Goldeyes added a run in the seventh when Didder and Bramasco drew walks and Hall lined a single to centre, extending the lead to 7-4. Winnipeg broke the game open in the eighth. Murphy doubled and scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-4. Didder and Bramasco followed with singles before Hall drove a three-run home run down the left-field line to give the Goldeyes an 11-4 advantage. Right-hander Derrick Cherry struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to close out the victory. Bourassa (W, 1-3) allowed two runs on five hits over five innings, striking out six and walking one. Arij Fransen was charged with two runs in two-thirds of an inning before Saul recorded the final out of the sixth and worked a scoreless seventh. Sage Ferguson struck out two in a perfect eighth before Cherry finished with a scoreless ninth. Chase Gearing (L, 5-7) allowed six runs on nine hits over six innings for Sioux Falls. Hall finished three-for-four with a home run, double, and five runs batted in. Didder reached base four times, scored four runs, and homered.
