Cleburne Wins One-Sided Affair at Shaw Park
WINNIPEG, MB – The Cleburne Railroaders (29-30) scored early and often on Saturday at Shaw Park as they defeated the Winnipeg Goldeyes (22-34) 11-2.
Box Score
Cleburne scored twice in the second inning when they had five straight hits with one out. A single by right fielder Jarel McDade and double by first baseman Mark Karaviotis set the table for third baseman Brian Klein who drove home the first run with an infield single. Shortstop Keshawn Lynch followed with a single, and that led to an RBI single to right by catcher JJ Figueroa for the second score.
In the third inning, Cleburne broke the game open with six runs. McDade and Karaviotis each had run-producing doubles. But with two out and two strikes left fielder Alex Jackson (1) belted a three-run homer which made it 8-0.
Cleburne starter (former Goldeye) Kevin Hilton (4-2) cruised to the win giving up one hit without a walk. The two runs he allowed were unearned. At one point he retired 11 straight Goldeyes. The eight innings pitched were the most for him this season.
Winnipeg starter
Marc-André Habeck (1-2) gave up a season-high for him in hits with nine and runs with eight (all earned) over three innings.
The only Winnipeg runs were in the sixth on groundouts by third baseman
Dayson Croes and shortstop
Keith Torres. The Goldeyes had just two hits--their fewest in a nine-inning game this year.
Winnipeg still has a chance to win this series tomorrow. The game is at 1:00 p.m. It'll be the same starters who worked the first game of this series on Tuesday---Cleburne left-hander Trey Cumbie (1-6) against Winnipeg right-hander
Joey Matulovich (2-5).
