Goldeyes Take Opener from RailCats

WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (23-26) defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats by a score of 9-3 at Blue Cross Park Friday evening.
Second baseman Keshawn Lynch opened the scoring for Winnipeg in the bottom of the first inning with an infield single just beyond second base that drove in third baseman Ramón Bramasco.
Lynch recorded another run batted in in the third when his groundout to third allowed shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder to score, making it 2-0 Goldeyes.
In the fourth inning, catcher Raphaël Pelletier hit his first home run as a Goldeye, a two-run shot to right field with first baseman Roby Enríquez aboard. Two pitches later, Didder homered to left to increase Winnipeg’s lead to 5-0. It was his eighth of the season.
The Goldeyes went up 6-0 in the fifth on designated hitter Jiandido Tromp’s double off the wall in left field. Left fielder Adam Hall scored from first base on the play.
Gary SouthShore (22-28) designated hitter Marc Flores hit a two-run home run to right field in the top of the sixth inning to trim Winnipeg’s lead to 6-2. However, the Goldeyes put the game out of reach with three runs in the eighth. Centre fielder Noah Marcelo tripled to centre field to bring Pelletier home before Lynch singled up the middle to drive in Marcelo and Hall.
The RailCats got one run back in the top of the ninth to make the score 9-3 Goldeyes. Pinch hitter Camryn Williams crossed the plate on Flores’ groundout to first base.
Tasker Strobel (W, 3-2) pitched 5 2/3 innings for Winnipeg. He gave up two runs on six hits while striking out five and walking a pair. Quinn Waterhouse, James Colyer, and Derrick Cherry appeared out of the bullpen.
Peyton Long (L, 6-2) allowed six runs on 11 hits over six innings of work. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Six Goldeyes recorded multiple hits, including Marcelo, Tromp, and Lynch, who had three apiece. Lynch drove in four runs and is one RBI shy of matching his 2025 total. Didder’s fourth-inning RBI gave him 31 this season, surpassing the 30 he recorded in 2025.
The series continues Saturday at 6:00 p.m., when Winnipeg will send another left-hander, Kevin Vaupel (1-3, 7.15 ERA), to the mound. Gary SouthShore is expected to counter with right-hander Deyni Olivero (3-4, 4.82 ERA).

FRANKLIN, WI – For the second time in three contests, the Winnipeg Goldeyes (22-26) unleashed an offensive barrage on the league-leading Milwaukee Milkmen, taking the series with a 14-7 victory at Franklin Field Wednesday evening. Boxscore Winnipeg opened the scoring in the top of the third inning, with third baseman Ramón Bramasco punching a base hit through the left side of the infield to bring first baseman Roby Enríquez home with the game’s first run. Two batters later, second baseman Adam Hall was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder to the plate. Designated hitter Jiandido Tromp hit a ground ball just beyond second base to score Bramasco and centre fielder Noah Marcelo , making it 4-0, before Hall crossed the plate on right fielder Max Murphy’s groundout to third base. The Goldeyes added two more runs an inning later. With two out, Marcelo lined a base hit to centre to drive in Bramasco. Marcelo then came around on Hall’s double to the wall in left field to make the score 7-0. Milwaukee (30-19) broke through in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three times. First, left fielder Justin Janas lined a double to centre that brought shortstop Delvin Pérez home. Centre fielder Alec Olund then singled to centre to score Janas, closing the gap to 7-2. Finally, second baseman Yordys Valdés brought Olund in with a base hit to left. Winnipeg quickly regained its seven-run lead in the top of the fifth, however. Catcher Kevin García hit a ground-rule double to right-centre field to plate Murphy. Didder then doubled into the gap in left-centre to score García and Enríquez, making it 10-3. The Milkmen responded again, this time pushing four runs across the plate in the bottom of the inning to make a game of it. Pérez brought third baseman Andy Blake home with a single to right. Winnipeg added five more runs in the second. Didder brought his Aruban countryman, designated hitter Jiandido Tromp , home with a sacrifice fly to right field. Then, centre fielder Noah Marcelo lined a double to left that drove in first baseman Kevin García and catcher Raphaël Pelletier to make the score 6-0. Boxscore Chicago scratched across a run in the bottom of the first inning when centre fielder Giovanni DiGiacomo came home on left fielder Jacob Maiben’s fielder’s choice. Winnipeg (20-25) responded with three runs in the top of the second. What had been a tight game all evening fast became a rout after that, with the Dogs scoring five times in the seventh inning and adding four in the eighth. WINNIPEG, MB – Winnipeg Goldeyes right-handed relievers Derrick Cherry and Eli Saul will join outfielder Noah Marcelo as West Division All-Stars for this month’s American Association All-Star Game, the league announced Wednesday. Cherry has assumed the closer’s role in 2026 and has excelled in his opportunities. The 25-year-old ranks second in the 12-team league in saves with seven and has not recorded a blown save. His 2.75 earned run average is second among Goldeyes pitchers. A native of Baytown, Texas, Cherry is in his second season in Winnipeg after previously pitching for the Rocky Mountain Vibes of the Pioneer League. Saul will join Cherry as pitchers representing the Goldeyes at the All-Star festivities. One of six Canadians on the roster, the Vancouver, British Columbia native is the team leader in ERA at 2.05 and struck out 16 batters in 22 innings pitched. The 24-year-old joined the Goldeyes after playing four seasons in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, reaching as high as Double-A on two occasions. Saul was drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 13th round of the 2022 MLB June Amateur Draft. The All-Star Game takes place Wednesday, July 15 at Haymarket Park in Lincoln, Nebraska. WINNIPEG, MB – Winnipeg Goldeyes centre fielder Noah Marcelo has been named a West Division starter for next month’s American Association All-Star Game, the league announced Tuesday. Marcelo leads the Goldeyes with ten home runs, 36 runs batted in, and 17 stolen bases. His .317 batting average ranks second on the team. The 25-year-old is third in the 12-team league in RBIs, tied for sixth in home runs, and tenth in steals. A native of Redwood City, California, Marcelo signed with the Goldeyes January 8 after being acquired from the Boise Hawks of the Pioneer League September 15, 2025. Marcelo hit .351 for the Hawks in 2025, with 12 home runs and 75 runs batted in, leading the Pioneer League with 64 stolen bases. The All-Star Game takes place Wednesday, July 15 in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Goldeyes will send lefty Ryo Kohigashi (2-1, 3.13 ERA) to the mound in game one while Kansas City will respond with right-hander Ryan García (5-2, 2.67 ERA). The second game will feature a pair of left-handers: Winnipeg’s Mitchell Lambson (2-4, 7.20 ERA) and the Monarchs’ Jacob Gómez (0-0, 3.50 ERA). WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (19-23) split a doubleheader with the Kansas City Monarchs Tuesday at Blue Cross Park, dropping the opener 12-0 before taking the nightcap 11-3. Boxscore – Game One Boxscore – Game Two In game one, Kansas City (23-17) starter Ryan García (W, 6-2) was dominant. The right-hander threw a complete game, three-hit shutout. He struck out three and walked one. The three hits he gave up were all singles. The Monarchs took the lead in the second inning when centre fielder Hudson Head lined a single to left field that scored second baseman Austin Callahan. Two batters later, catcher Brady Lindsly doubled off the left field wall, bringing Head and right fielder Trevor Boone in to make it 3-0. In the top of the fourth, Boone came home on third baseman J.D. Davis’ single to left before Callahan hit a three-run home run to left field with Davis and first baseman Saúl Garza aboard, giving Kansas City a 7-0 advantage. They would add another four in the sixth. First, Head drew a bases-loaded walk that forced Davis in. The next hitter, Boone, hit a three-run double to right. Garza, shortstop Sahid Valenzuela, and Head all came around, and it was 11-0 Monarchs. Davis hit a solo home run to left field in the seventh to close out the scoring. Ryo Kohigashi (L, 2-2) started for Winnipeg. He went five innings and gave up seven runs on 11 hits. The lefty struck out seven and walked two. Kohigashi leads the Goldeyes’ staff with 48 strikeouts on the season. Willian Suárez and Quinn Waterhouse pitched out of the bullpen for the Goldeyes. The second game appeared to be a continuation of the opener when first baseman Luken Baker hit a three-run home run to left field in the top of the first inning. Left fielder Nick Martini and Garza were on base and Winnipeg quickly found itself down 3-0. In the bottom of the inning, the Goldeyes pulled to within one. Shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder crossed the plate as the result of a throwing error before third baseman Ramón Bramasco came in on second baseman Adam Hall ’s groundout to shortstop that made the score 3-2 in favour of Kansas City. The Goldeyes took the lead in the second frame. First baseman T.J. Schofield-Sam tied the contest with a single to right-centre that drove in right fielder Keshawn Lynch . Centre fielder Noah Marcelo then put Winnipeg ahead 4-3 with a base hit up the middle that brought Schofield-Sam in to score. Schofield-Sam drove in two more runs in the home half of the third. He hit a double down the left-field line that plated designated hitter Max Murphy and Lynch, making it 6-3 Goldeyes. Winnipeg added two more in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 8-3. Bramasco singled to right field scoring Schofield-Sam. Then Didder came home on Marcelo’s fielder’s choice. In the sixth, Hall scored on Lynch’s groundout to the pitcher, catcher Kevin García drove in left fielder Jiandido Tromp with a single to left, and Murphy scampered home on Schofield-Sam’s sacrifice fly to centre field that made it 11-3 Goldeyes. Mitchell Lambson (W, 3-4) pitched five innings and allowed three runs on five hits. The veteran struck out two and did not walk a batter. Eli Saul and Derrick Cherry split the final two innings and did not give up a hit. Jacob Gómez started for the Monarchs and lasted just 1 2/3 innings. He surrendered four runs – three earned – on three hits while issuing a pair of walks. The series concludes Wednesday with a special 4:00 p.m. Canada Day start time. Winnipeg will send southpaw Tasker Strobel (2-1, 6.35 ERA) to the mound, while Kansas City will counter with right-hander Grant Gambrell (2-0, 1.64 ERA).
