Goldeyes Reveal Buzzworthy Rebrand
(Yes, Really. Mostly.)
WINNIPEG, MB — In a move absolutely no one asked for, but everyone somehow understands, the Winnipeg Goldeyes Baseball Club announced today that it will rebrand under an alternate identity that strikes fear, irritation, and mild itching into the hearts of opponents everywhere: the Manitoba Mosquitoes.
Long considered Manitoba’s most relentless and undefeated summer competitor, the mosquito has officially earned its place on the diamond.
For decades, mosquitoes have terrorized Manitobans with elite speed, pinpoint accuracy, and an uncanny ability to show up exactly when you thought you were safe at home. After extensive scouting, the Goldeyes concluded there was no more fitting symbol of summer dominance.
“Let’s be honest — nothing says ‘Manitoba summer’ quite like mosquitoes,” said Andrew Collier, Mosquitoes General Manager. “They’re fast, persistent, impossible to ignore, and once they show up, you’re not getting rid of them. Mosquitoes felt… on brand.”
Under the Manitoba Mosquitoes identity, fans can expect all the things they’ve come to love: aggressive base running, relentless pressure, and an opponent experience best described as loud, uncomfortable, and impossible to escape.
The alternate identity pays tribute to Manitoba’s unofficial provincial bird, whose legendary work ethic and refusal to quit have inspired generations of campers, cottagers, and baseball fans alike.
Like their winged counterparts, the Manitoba Mosquitoes promise to:
- Swarm early
- Swarm often
- Never stop swarming
“These things don’t rebuild. They don’t tank. They don’t take nights off,” said Dan Chase, Mosquitoes Director of Sales and Marketing, scratching aggressively. “They swarm. They adapt. And once they get a lead, they never stop bothering you about it.”
Players will take the field in special Mosquitoes-themed jerseys, conceptualized by Brooks Freeman of Serpent Design, while fans can look forward to themed promotions, exclusive merchandise, and the unsettling realization that this idea works far too well. Bug spray not included.
“We wanted an identity that represents Manitoba toughness,” Chase continued. “The mosquito doesn’t care how big you are, where you’re from, or what inning it is. If you’re here, they’re coming for you.”
IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION BEFORE ANYONE CALLS AN ENTOMOLOGIST:
This announcement is an April Fools’ joke… kind of.
While the Winnipeg Goldeyes are not permanently changing their name to the Manitoba Mosquitoes — for legal, moral, and biological reasons — the team will officially rebrand for one game only on July 31, when the Mosquitoes will swarm the field for a night fans will never forget and may never stop talking about.
So this season, when the lights come on and the Mosquitoes take the field, remember: you might not see them coming, but you’ll definitely feel them.
Manitoba Mosquitoes merchandise is available for pre-order at ShopGoldeyes.ca, while tickets to the July 31 game vs. the Lincoln Saltdogs are on sale now.
