WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (36-47) won their third series out of the last four Thursday evening with a 7-6 victory over the Cleburne Railroaders (39-44) at Blue Cross Park. Boxscore The Goldeyes broke a scoreless tie by erupting for six runs in the third inning. Catcher Rob Emery belted his first home run since rejoining the team over the left field wall to give Winnipeg a 1-0 lead. Then with two out, third baseman Ramón Bramasco singled to centre field, driving in Tripp Clark and Ray-Patrick Didder to make it 3-0. The next batter, right fielder Max Murphy , smacked a three-run home run – his team-leading 15th – to left-centre to increase the lead to 6-0. Cleburne would reduce the deficit by two in the top of the sixth when third baseman Chris Kwitzer brought home Dustin Peterson and Kyle Martin with a single to left field. Didder hit a one-out, solo home run in the bottom of the frame to extend the Goldeyes’ lead to 7-2, and it would turn out to be a very important run. Peterson would hit a two-out, two-run home run in the seventh inning, and Shed Long Jr. added another with two down in the ninth to pull the Railroaders to within one. However, Ryder Yakel (S, 7) was able to recover to strike out Peterson one batter later to end the ballgame. Luke Boyd (W, 4-8) started for Winnipeg and worked six innings. He allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking three. Tasker Strobel was first out of the bullpen and gave up a run on a hit with two strikeouts. Yakel pitched the ninth and surrendered two runs on two hits and also fanned a pair. In the top of the first, Ramón Bramasco reached base ahead of Jacob Robson , who launched his 11th home run of the season over the right field wall to open a 2-0 lead. In the fifth, Bramasco reached on a throwing error and later scored on Robson’s third RBI of the evening, giving the Goldeyes a 4-0 cushion. Winnipeg’s pitching staff handled the rest.
