WINNIPEG, MB – Sioux Falls Canaries (46-43) right fielder Aaron Whitefield had three RBIs including a two-out two-run triple in the sixth inning as they defeated the Winnipeg Goldeyes (38-51) 6-5 on Tuesday night at Shaw Park. Whitefield who was just acquired from the Kansas City Monarchs has eight RBIs this season in the American Association – all against Winnipeg. The Canaries have won the first two games of this series.

The visitors got on the board in the second on an RBI single by right fielder Hunter Clanin, and a sacrifice fly by Whitefield. The Canaries added two runs in the fourth. Second baseman Trevor Achenbach (11) led off with a homer to left while two batters later catcher Shamoy Christopher delivered an RBI single.


Winnipeg began to come back in the fourth scoring twice. Designated hitter Max Murphy led off with a walk, left fielder Miles Simington followed immediately with a double. First baseman Hidekel Gonzalez grounded to third which scored Murphy. Canaries starter Neil Lang then walked three straight two out batters including Goldeyes second baseman Brynn Martinez with the bases loaded and that made it 4-2 Sioux Falls. The Goldeyes then had third baseman Dayson Croes at the plate but right fielder Najee Gaskins got picked off third to end the frame.


The Goldeyes were down 6-3 going to the bottom of the eighth inning and drew to within a run on a two-run two-out double by Croes. He was 4-4 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored. It was his second four-hit game this year. The first year Goldeye leads the American Association in average at .368 and base hits with 124.


In the bottom of the ninth, the Goldeyes tried mounting a two-out rally on a single by Gonzalez and a walk by catcher Chris Burgess but Gaskins struck out to end the game.


Lang got a no-decision as he went four innings (plus), struck out one, and allowed three runs (all earned). Cole LaLonde (1-0) worked two shutout innings for his first professional win. Jose Cruz (2) was scoreless in 1 1/3 innings out of the bullpen and notched the save.


Goldeyes starter Tyler Jandron (2-7) in defeat went 5 1/3 innings and gave up five runs (all earned). He gave up seven hits, walked three, and fanned five.


The third game of this series is Wednesday at Shaw Park. Right-hander Chris Hardin (2-6) is the scheduled starter for Sioux Falls while righty Landen Bourassa (9-5) is slated to get the ball for Winnipeg.


GOLDEYES SCALES


With the loss, it's the first losing full-season for Winnipeg since 2018 when they were 41-59. The club was 29-31 in 2020 but that was abbreviated due to the pandemic.


Croes now has two four-hit games this year. It was the fourth time this season a Goldeye had four hits in one contest – Javeyan Williams and Burgess are the others.


Winnipeg drops to 10-16 in one-run games. Sioux Falls leads the season series 5-3.


Every Goldeye in the starting lineup reached base safely.


Murphy had one RBI – a fifth inning single. His 82 RBIs lead the American Association.

WINNIPEG, MB – Winnipeg Goldeyes left-hander Mitchell Lambson has been named Carbliss American Association Pitcher of the Week for the period ending June 15, the league announced Monday afternoon. Lambson twirled a complete game, seven strikeout performance Friday in a 6-1 Goldeyes victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats at U.S. Steel Yard. He did not walk a batter. The 34-year-old is 4-1 with a 4.03 earned run average in seven starts this season and has only surrendered 10 free passes in 42.1 innings pitched. Lambson won an American Association championship with the Goldeyes in 2017 and was named the league’s Pitcher of the Year following the 2019 season, during which he went 13-4 with a 3.11 earned run average. Overall, the native of Montclair, California has made 97 appearances for Winnipeg between 2017 and 2024 and has compiled a 38-18 record with a 3.84 ERA. Lambson has pitched nine complete games, including three shutouts, and has struck out 375 batters. Lambson is among the Goldeyes’ career leaders in wins, winning percentage (.678), games started (62), complete games, innings pitched (469), and strikeouts. Chosen by the Houston Astros in the 19th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft out of Arizona State University (Tempe, Arizona), Lambson also pitched in the Atlanta Braves’ and Milwaukee Brewers’ organizations, reaching the Class-AAA level on two occasions. GARY, IN – The Gary SouthShore RailCats (9-24) avoided a series sweep at the hands of the Winnipeg Goldeyes (15-18) Sunday afternoon with a 9-1 victory at U.S. Steel Yard. Boxscore The RailCats got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when first baseman Joe Suozzi drew a bases-loaded walk that forced in LG Castillo. One pitch later, right fielder Jake Guenther – claimed off waivers from the Goldeyes one week ago – hit a grand slam to right field to make the score 5-0. Third baseman Kevin García hit his third home run in as many games with one out in the top of the fifth inning to account for the Goldeyes’ only run of the ballgame. Gary SouthShore added one run in the sixth when Ernny Ordoñez scored on second baseman Jake Allgeyer’s sacrifice fly to centre field and another in the seventh inning on Suozzi’s double down the left field line that drove in Jairus Richards to increase the lead to 7-1 The RailCats rounded out the scoring in the eighth on a two-run single to left-centre field by Suozzi that brought in Ordoñez and Allgeyer to make it 9-1. GARY, IN – A fast start and dominant pitching performance led the Winnipeg Goldeyes (15-17) to a 4-1 win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats (8-24) Saturday afternoon at U.S. Steel Yard. Boxscore The Goldeyes broke out the bats early in the top of the first inning. With runners at first and second, Roby Enríquez bounced an RBI single through the right side of the infield to score Ray-Patrick Didder to take a 1-0 lead. A couple of batters later, Gustavo Sosa lifted a sacrifice fly to left to score Max Murphy and double the lead to 2-0. The next inning, Kevin García hit his second home run in two games to extend the lead to 3-0. García finished the day going 3-for-4 with a single, double, and home run. The Goldeyes added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning. Murphy lined a single to right to score Ramón Bramasco to make it 4-0. Luke Boyd (W, 1-2) dominated for the Goldeyes, tossing seven shutout innings. Boyd allowed five hits, walked two, and struck out five. Ben Onyshko was first out of the bullpen for Winnipeg and struck out two in a scoreless eighth. Trevor Brigden surrendered the only run for the RailCats in the bottom of the ninth on a bases loaded walk. Brigden finished his outing allowing one hit, three walks, and recording one strikeout. Deyni Olivero (L, 1-3) worked six innings for Gary SouthShore, allowing three earned runs on seven hits, with two walks and seven strikeouts. GARY, IN – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (14-17) used timely hitting and a masterful complete game from Mitchell Lambson to take the opener of their weekend set against the Gary SouthShore RailCats (8-23), earning a 6-1 victory Friday evening at U.S. Steel Yard. Boxscore Lambson (W, 4-1) was outstanding, picking up his fourth win of the season. The veteran southpaw allowed just one run on seven hits while striking out a season-high seven batters in a dominant outing. The game remained scoreless into the sixth inning when Winnipeg finally broke through. Catcher Kevin García launched his first home run of the season to put the Goldeyes up 1-0. The RailCats responded in the bottom of the seventh on a solo home run from Andrés Noriega, briefly evening the score at 1-1. The Goldeyes regained the lead in the top of the eighth when Ramón Bramasco scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1. Winnipeg then put the game out of reach with a four-run ninth inning. With the bases loaded, García delivered a two-run single to left field, scoring Ray-Patrick Didder and Jacob Robson . On the same play, an errant throw from RailCats left-fielder LG Castillo allowed Keshawn Lynch to score as well, pushing the lead to 5-1. Bramasco followed with an RBI single to centre, plating García and capping the scoring at 6-1. Chicago designated hitter Brantley Bell opened the scoring with a leadoff home run to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning. Later in the frame, third baseman Dusty Stroup extended the Dogs’ lead to 2-0 with a sacrifice fly to right that brought in left fielder T.J. Hopkins. Bell added insurance in the eighth inning with his second solo home run of the night. ROSEMONT, IL – Max Murphy clubbed his 93rd and 94th home runs in a Winnipeg Goldeyes uniform Wednesday evening, surpassing franchise legend Reggie Abercrombie to become the team’s all-time home run leader. Boxscore Winnipeg (13-16) secured the series win with an 11-2 victory over the Chicago Dogs (14-16) at Impact Field. The Goldeyes opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when Matthew Warkentin launched a solo home run to give Winnipeg a 1-0 lead. Murphy followed in the fourth with his record-breaking blast to double the lead. Later in the inning, Andy Armstrong hit a three-run homer to make it 5-0. Chicago cut the deficit to 5-2 in the bottom of the fourth, but Murphy struck again in the top of the fifth with his second home run of the game — a two-run shot that pushed the Goldeyes’ lead back to 7-2. Keshawn Lynch added a two-run single later in the inning to make it 9-2. In the sixth, Warkentin delivered an RBI single to score Ramón Bramasco , and in the seventh, Bramasco added a ground-rule double that brought Armstrong home to cap the scoring at 11-2. On the mound, Landen Bourassa (W, 3-3) earned the win with seven strong innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five. Tasker Strobel worked a scoreless eighth, and Derrick Cherry pitched a perfect ninth to close out the game. John Baker (3-2) took the loss for Chicago, surrendering seven runs over 4.1 innings. Boxscore Chicago opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a solo home run from Jacob Teter. Winnipeg responded quickly as Matthew Warkentin hit the first of his two home runs in the top of the second to tie the game 1-1. The Goldeyes broke things open in the fifth inning with a four-run outburst, all courtesy of the long ball. Ray-Patrick Didder led off the frame with a solo shot to give Winnipeg the lead. After Keshawn Lynch reached on a single, Gustavo Sosa followed with his first home run of the season to extend the advantage to 4-1. Jacob Robson capped the inning with a solo blast to make it 5-1. Warkentin continued the power surge in the sixth inning, launching his second home run of the night off the video board in left field to make it 6-1. Chicago cut the deficit to 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run home run by Brantley Bell, but the Goldeyes added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth. Warkentin singled home Ramón Bramasco before Tanner O’Tremba drove in Max Murphy to close out the scoring. WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (11-15) were held to just two hits in a 9-0 loss to the Kansas City Monarchs (19-7) on Saturday evening at Blue Cross Park. Boxscore Monarchs’ left-hander Josh Hendrickson (3-1) turned in a dominant outing, tossing six no-hit innings while walking three and striking out a season-high 15 batters—setting a new American Association mark for 2025. Kansas City opened the scoring in the first inning when Jorge Bonifacio doubled home Isiah Gilliam. Gilliam extended the lead in the fifth with a solo home run to make it 2-0. The Monarchs broke the game open in the sixth inning, batting around to score five runs. Josh Bissonette lifted a sacrifice fly to score Ross Adolph, followed by a two-run double from Álvaro González. John Nogowski capped the inning with a two-run single, scoring both Gilliam and González. Adolph added a solo home run in the top of the ninth to round out the scoring. Mitchell Lambson (3-1) started for Winnipeg and took the loss, allowing seven runs on 10 hits over 5.1 innings. The Goldeyes used three relievers—Ryder Yakel, Trevor Brigden, Landon Leach.
