Goldeyes’ Curl Named League’s Best Broadcaster

WINNIPEG, MB – Winnipeg Goldeyes play-by-play voice Trevor Curl has been named the American Association’s Broadcaster of the Year, the club announced Wednesday. The award was decided by a vote of directors, general managers, and broadcast personnel from each of the league’s 12 teams.
Curl completed his third season behind the microphone for the Goldeyes in 2026. His calls are heard on CJNU 93.7 FM and cjnu.ca, and he also hosts The Inside Pitch, the club’s offseason radio program.
“Trevor brings preparation, energy, and a genuine love of baseball to every broadcast,” said Goldeyes President and Chief Executive Officer Sam Katz. “He has a gift for making listeners feel as though they’re right there at the ballpark, and he has built a strong connection with our fans in a short time. We’re delighted to see his work recognized by his colleagues across the league.”
“Trevor puts a tremendous amount of work into every game, and we’re pleased to see that commitment recognized,” said Goldeyes General Manager Andrew Collier. “He knows our players, understands the game, and makes each broadcast engaging for our fans. Whether they’re listening from home or following the team on the road, he helps them feel connected to the Goldeyes.”
Curl’s work has also taken him beyond Winnipeg. He handled broadcasting duties for the Baseball Champions League tournament in Mexico City this March and the Arizona Fall League last October. He will return to the Arizona Fall League broadcast booth again this year.
Before joining the Goldeyes in 2024, Curl was the voice of the Auburn Doubledays of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League in 2023 and the Swepsonville Sweepers of the Old North State League in 2022. A graduate of Eastern Oregon University, he played two seasons as an infielder for the Mountaineers and called basketball, volleyball, soccer, and football games while attending the school.
The most recent Goldeyes broadcaster to receive the award was Steve Schuster, who was honoured in 2022.

WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes have been named the American Association’s Social Media Team of the Year for the second consecutive season. League directors, general managers, and broadcasters selected the winner. The Goldeyes led the 12-team league in follower growth, total reach, total impressions, engagement rate, and total engagement. The footwear goes directly to Siloam Mission and makes a meaningful difference in the daily lives of the people it serves.” The total number of pairs donated increased to more than 1,000 after Quarks brand partner Merrell contributed just over 400 additional pairs. Fans brought footwear to Goldeyes home games throughout the 2026 season, with collection bins at all three entrances to Blue Cross Park. Contributions were also accepted at Quarks retail locations. “The generosity of Goldeyes fans was on full display again this season,” said Collier. “Every pair of shoes brought to the ballpark will help Siloam Mission support someone in our community. WINNIPEG, MB – Right fielder Matt Kroon hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to lift the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to a 6-5 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes Friday evening at Blue Cross Park in Game Two of the West Division Series. Fargo-Moorhead won the best-of-three series 2-0 and advances to the West Division Championship Series, where the RedHawks will face the winner of Saturday’s game between the Sioux Falls Canaries and Kansas City Monarchs. Boxscore The visitors opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. Second baseman Tucupita Marcano singled to centre field and stole second before scoring when a fly ball off the bat of third baseman Brian Fuentes was misplayed in left field. Kroon doubled to begin the fourth, advanced to third on Marcano’s sacrifice bunt, and scored on Fuentes’ base hit to centre to give the RedHawks a 2-0 lead. Winnipeg answered with three runs in the bottom half. Third baseman Ramón Bramasco and shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder opened the inning with singles before Didder stole second. Centre fielder Noah Marcelo grounded out to bring Bramasco home, and first baseman Roby Enríquez followed with a two-run home run to right field that put the Goldeyes ahead 3-2. The RedHawks tied the game in the fifth. First baseman José Sermo singled, designated hitter Tripp Clark doubled, and centre fielder Dillon Thomas walked before Kroon’s fielder’s choice brought Sermo home to make it 3-3. Sermo struck out before Clark was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Thomas walked, and Kroon followed with a three-run home run that gave the RedHawks a 6-5 lead. WINNIPEG, MB – Winnipeg Goldeyes right-hander Aidan Newton has been named Carbliss Pitcher of the Week for the period ending September 7, the American Association announced Wednesday. Newton made two starts during the final week of the regular season, going 1-0 with a 2.25 earned run average. Over 12 innings, he allowed three earned runs on 10 hits, walked just two batters, and struck out four. Opponents batted .233 against him, while he posted a 1.00 WHIP. The Calgary, Alberta native’s week was highlighted by the first complete game and shutout of his professional career September 1, when he blanked the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on five hits in an 8-0 Winnipeg victory at Newman Outdoor Field. He walked one and struck out one in the seven-inning contest. In his second start of the week Sunday at Kansas City, Newton allowed three runs on five hits over five innings against the Monarchs, walking one and striking out three. The rookie finished his first professional regular season with a perfect 5-0 record and a 3.28 ERA in 35 2/3 innings. He surrendered just 30 hits, walked 13, and struck out 20 while holding opposing hitters to a .222 batting average and recording a 1.206 WHIP. The weekly honour is the second earned by a Goldeyes pitcher in 2026. Luke Boyd received the award for the period ending August 2. Newton signed with Winnipeg in late July after completing his collegiate career at the University of Mount Olive in North Carolina. The 6-foot-3 right-hander went 7-2 with a 3.32 ERA in 16 appearances, including 10 starts, for the Trojans this spring. He struck out 83 batters in 81 1/3 innings and pitched five complete games, including one shutout. A Second Team All-Conference Carolinas selection in 2026, Newton previously pitched for two seasons at NCAA Division I Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, after beginning his collegiate career at Lethbridge College. WINNIPEG, MB – Three Winnipeg Goldeyes have received major honours from the American Association following outstanding 2026 regular seasons, with shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder and third baseman Ramón Bramasco named Postseason All-Stars and left-hander Ryo Kohigashi selected as the league’s Rookie Pitcher of the Year. Didder enjoyed a strong bounce-back season in his second year with Winnipeg, batting .278 with 24 doubles, five triples, 22 home runs, and 81 runs batted in. He posted a .397 on-base percentage and .554 slugging percentage for a team-best .951 OPS, while also stealing 20 bases. His 92 runs scored ranked third in the American Association and left him just one shy of the Goldeyes single-season record of 93 established by Fehlandt Lentini in 2006. Didder was also hit by a pitch 15 times, fifth-most in the league. The 31-year-old native of Paradera, Aruba, originally signed with the Atlanta Braves as an international free agent at age 18 and spent seven seasons in their organization, reaching Class-AA twice. He later played in the Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, and San Diego Padres systems and reached Class-AAA with Jacksonville in 2022 and El Paso in 2023. Didder has also represented the Netherlands internationally, including at the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Bramasco, meanwhile, followed up his 2025 Pepsi Goldeyes Player of the Year campaign with an even stronger season. He batted .315 with a team-leading 118 hits, 15 doubles, six home runs, 54 runs batted in, and 74 runs scored. His .425 on-base percentage was the highest among Winnipeg regulars, and he stole 14 bases without being caught. Bramasco’s 74 walks led the American Association and tied Tyler Hill’s 2021 total for the third-most in a single season in Goldeyes history. A native of Bellflower, California, Bramasco joined Winnipeg in 2024 and helped the Goldeyes advance to the Miles Wolff Cup Final that season. Prior to coming to Winnipeg, he spent two seasons with the Tigres de Quintana Roo of the Mexican Baseball League. Bramasco played collegiately at the University of Washington from 2019 through 2021, batting .275 in 111 games with the Huskies. The 29-year-old was named the Manitoba Blue Cross Hardest Working Goldeyes Player of the Year. Kohigashi made an immediate impact in his first American Association season, posting a 5-2 record with one save and a 3.95 earned run average. The 28-year-old worked 79 2/3 innings and led the Goldeyes with 85 strikeouts while issuing just 27 walks. Opponents batted .252 against him, and he finished the regular season with a 1.305 WHIP and an average of 9.60 strikeouts per nine innings. The Kyoto, Japan native joined the Goldeyes after spending the bulk of the previous two seasons with the Québec Capitales of the Frontier League, helping the club win championships in both 2024 and 2025. Kohigashi appeared in 51 regular-season games for Québec over those two years, going 8-3 with a 2.67 ERA. He has also spent three seasons in the Australian Baseball League with the Auckland Tuatara, Canberra Cavalry, and Brisbane Bandits. Didder and Bramasco helped Winnipeg finish the regular season 54-46 and second in the American Association West Division. As the top seed in the West Division, the Kansas City Monarchs had the opportunity to select their first-round opponent and chose the Sioux Falls Canaries, setting up another postseason meeting between Winnipeg and Fargo-Moorhead. The clubs first met in the playoffs in 1996 and faced one another nine times during their Northern League years. Winnipeg won series in 1997, 1999, and 2001, while Fargo-Moorhead prevailed in 1996, 1998, 2000, 2003, 2006, and 2009. Since joining the American Association, the Goldeyes have won two of three postseason series against the RedHawks.
