The oldest player on the Winnipeg roster, Mitchell Lambson entered the 2026 season at age 35 and has since turned 36. Now in his 17th season of professional baseball, Mitchell has built a résumé defined by longevity, versatility, and sustained success across North America and overseas.

Mitchell pitched collegiately at Arizona State University when the Pac-10 was one of the premier baseball conferences on the West Coast. One of the Sun Devils’ top bullpen arms, he was selected by the Houston Astros in the 19th round of the 2011 MLB Draft. During his time in affiliated baseball, Mitchell crossed paths with a number of future Major League stars, including George Springer, Teoscar Hernández, and Josh Hader.

His first stint in Winnipeg began midway through the 2017 season, when Mitchell helped the Goldeyes capture their second consecutive American Association championship. After initially working out of the bullpen, he moved into the starting rotation and quickly established himself as one of the league’s most dependable arms. His success culminated in an American Association Pitcher of the Year award, making him the fourth Winnipeg pitcher to receive a league’s top pitching honour after Rafael Gross in 2003, Andrew Walker in 2009, and Nick Hernández in 2014.

After pitching for Winnipeg from 2017 through 2020, Mitchell continued his career with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League. His travels later took him overseas to the Wei Chuan Dragons of the Chinese Professional Baseball League and to Saraperos de Saltillo in the Mexican League before he returned to Winnipeg in 2024 and helped the club make another run at an American Association championship.

Mitchell entered the 2026 season firmly established throughout the Goldeyes record book. At that point, he ranked second in franchise history with 42 wins, 438 strikeouts, 557 innings pitched, and 12 complete games, while sitting fourth with 75 games started.

Few players on the roster can match the breadth of Mitchell’s experience, and his presence gives Winnipeg a veteran leader with championship credentials and a deep connection to some of the most successful seasons in franchise history.
