An American Association legend and one of the most accomplished players in Winnipeg Goldeyes history, Max Murphy returns for his sixth season with the club in 2026.

Over the course of his career, Murphy has steadily climbed both the franchise and league record books. He became the Goldeyes’ all-time home run leader on June 11, 2025, when a multi-homer game against the Chicago Dogs moved him past Hall of Famer Reggie Abercrombie’s previous mark of 92. Murphy entered 2026 with 393 RBIs for Winnipeg, just six shy of Abercrombie’s franchise record.

His place among the American Association’s all-time greats is just as impressive. Murphy entered the season ranked fourth in league history with 131 home runs, having surpassed former Winnipeg infielder Josh Mazzola, and second with 525 career RBIs, trailing only Abercrombie’s 606.

Murphy was named the American Association Player of the Year in 2022, becoming just the second Winnipeg player to earn the honour in the league after Josh Romanski in 2017. Combined with Northern League winners Terry Lee in 1995 and 1996 and Sean Hearn in 1998, Murphy became the fourth player in franchise history to receive a league Player of the Year award.

Murphy has also been a fixture at the Baseball Champions League Americas, appearing in each of the first three editions of the international tournament. He helped the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks win the inaugural championship in Monterrey, Mexico, in 2023 before representing the Kane County Cougars in Mexico City in 2025 and 2026. Murphy captured another championship in 2026 alongside Winnipeg teammate Derrick Cherry.

Away from the ballpark, Murphy spends much of his offseason hunting and fishing in the Minnesota outdoors. He has even brought his bow to the ballpark from time to time to fine-tune his equipment before hunting season. Murphy is also known for his glove-care work, repairing and conditioning gloves for himself, teammates, players around Winnipeg, and occasionally even opponents from around the American Association.
