Luke Boyd joined the Winnipeg Goldeyes early in the 2025 season, bringing with him several years of professional experience and a background as one of the top collegiate closers in the country.

Luke starred at Baylor University, where he established himself at the back end of the Bears’ bullpen and drew the attention of professional scouts. After being selected in the MLB Draft multiple times during his college career, he signed with the San Diego Padres organization following the 2021 draft and began his professional career in affiliated baseball.

After his release by San Diego in 2023, Luke joined the Cleburne Railroaders, where he pitched for manager Logan Watkins. He returned to Cleburne in 2024, with a brief stint in Fargo-Moorhead, before opening the 2025 season back with the Railroaders.

That summer brought another reunion with Watkins. After making two starts for Cleburne, Luke was released and quickly signed by Winnipeg, joining the club in Kane County in time for the second game of a doubleheader. He remained with the Goldeyes for the rest of the season and became a regular part of the starting rotation.

Luke re-signed with Winnipeg early in the offseason and returned in 2026 as part of a rotation featuring several familiar faces. His ability to transition from a collegiate closer into a dependable professional starter has added another chapter to a career shaped by adaptability, perseverance, and opportunities earned at each stop along the way.
