Growing up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Kevin Vaupel was drawn to competition from an early age. Inspired in part by watching his older brother compete as a swimmer, Kevin spent much of his childhood swimming competitively before baseball eventually became his primary focus during high school.
Kevin continued his baseball career at Seton Hill University, where he developed into one of the Griffins’ top pitchers. Among the memorable performances of his collegiate career was a 125-pitch outing in a pivotal battle for first place in the conference, allowing just one run while demonstrating the competitiveness and durability that would become hallmarks of his game.
Despite missing roughly half of his senior season because of injury, Kevin was selected by the Miami Marlins in the 16th round of the 2023 MLB Draft. His introduction to professional baseball was soon interrupted by further arm trouble, however, and he underwent Tommy John surgery before missing the entire 2024 season.
Kevin returned to the mound in 2025 with Single-A Jupiter and quickly showed that the lengthy rehabilitation had paid off. He made 30 appearances, posting a 3.71 ERA over 53.1 innings while striking out 62 batters.
After navigating the uncertainty and demanding rehabilitation that followed surgery, Kevin arrived in Winnipeg with both affiliated experience and a renewed opportunity to build momentum in his professional career.
