WINNIPEG, MB – Second baseman Keshawn Lynch singled home third baseman Ramón Bramasco in the bottom of the tenth inning Tuesday as the Winnipeg Goldeyes (47-39) defeated the Kansas City Monarchs 6-5 at Blue Cross Park in the completion of a game suspended by rain Monday night. The game began Monday, August 24 and was suspended after eight innings with the score tied 4-4. It resumed Tuesday prior to the regularly scheduled game between the clubs. Boxscore Winnipeg opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning Monday. Bramasco doubled to left field and designated hitter Ray-Patrick Didder walked before centre fielder Noah Marcelo lifted a sacrifice fly to right field that brought Bramasco home. It was Marcelo's 84th run batted in of the season. The Goldeyes added two runs in the second. Catcher Raphaël Pelletier singled and right fielder Max Murphy doubled before shortstop Peyton Holt hit a sacrifice fly to centre that scored Pelletier. First baseman Roby Enríquez followed with another sacrifice fly, bringing Murphy home to make it 3-0. Kansas City (51-36) rallied for four runs in the seventh. Austin Callahan reached on an error that allowed Hudson Head to score, Luken Baker drew a bases-loaded walk to force in another run, and Grant Richardson followed with a two-run single to right field that brought home Callahan and Brady Lindsly. Holt answered in the bottom half with a solo home run to left field, tying the game 4-4. Neither club scored in the eighth before rain and storms forced the game to be suspended until Tuesday. Richardson put the Monarchs back in front when play resumed, hitting a solo home run to right field in the top of the ninth to make it 5-4. Winnipeg responded in the bottom half. Holt singled before left fielder Adam Hall tripled to centre field to bring him home and tie the game 5-5. It was Hall's team-leading seventh triple of the season. Kansas City failed to score in the top of the tenth. Bramasco began the bottom half at second base as the automatic runner before Didder walked. A wild pitch moved Bramasco to third and Marcelo was intentionally walked to load the bases. Lynch then lined a single to left field to score Bramasco and end the game. Right-hander James Colyer started for Winnipeg Monday and worked three scoreless innings, allowing two hits while walking two and striking out six. Left-hander Mitchell Lambson followed with 1 2/3 scoreless innings, permitting one hit and one walk while striking out three. Right-hander Arij Fransen retired all four batters he faced, striking out each of them. Left-hander Tasker Strobel was charged with three runs on one hit and one walk without recording an out. Right-hander Sage Ferguson allowed one run on one hit and one walk in one inning while striking out two, and left-hander Quinn Waterhouse worked a scoreless eighth, walking one and striking out two. Right-hander Derrick Cherry (W, 2-3) pitched both innings Tuesday, allowing one run on two hits. Tyler Myrick (L, 1-2) was charged with two runs – one earned – on three hits and two walks in one inning for Kansas City. There was no save. Holt finished two-for-three with a home run, two runs batted in, and two runs scored. Bramasco had two hits, including a double, and scored twice, while Hall, Pelletier, and Murphy also recorded two hits apiece. The Goldeyes and Monarchs met again later Tuesday in their regularly scheduled game, which began at 7:15 p.m. after being pushed back to accommodate the completion of the suspended contest.
