Murphy Leads Goldeyes to Win Over Lincoln

WINNIPEG, MB – If only Winnipeg Goldeyes (32-45) right fielder Max Murphy (22) could play every game against the Lincoln Saltdogs (37-39). Murphy belted a three-run homer, his league best 22nd, an RBI single and had four RBIs helping the Goldeyes to an 8-4 win on Wednesday night at Shaw Park. This season against Lincoln, Murphy has six homers and 20 RBIs. Overall, he has 68 RBIs which is second in the American Association.
Murphy's clout was set up in the fourth inning when third baseman Dayson Croes walked and shortstop Andy Armstrong singled. Murphy hit the first pitch from Lincoln starter David Holmberg (1-5) on a high arching drive to right field and that made it 3-0.
Lincoln got two runs back in the fifth but Winnipeg answered with a run after centre fielder Tra Holmes was hit by a pitch. He stole second and moved to third when Saltdogs catcher Luke Roskam threw the ball into centre field. Croes followed with a sacrifice fly to left.
The Goldeyes broke the game open in the sixth scoring four. Croes had a two-run bases loaded single, Armstrong followed with a safety squeeze along the first base grass, and Murphy delivered a single.
Winnipeg was up 8-2 going to the ninth. Samuel Adames in a non-save situation came in and walked leadoff man – pinch hitter – Zane Zurbrugg. The first five Saltdogs reached. This included an RBI infield single by third baseman Luis Roman, and a full-count bases loaded walk by left fielder Aaron Takacs. Two runs were in before anyone was retired and the tying run was at the plate with the Goldeyes up 8-4. Lincoln shortstop Drew Devine with one swing could have tied but instead he hit a ball back to Adames, who began a 1-2-3 double play. Second baseman Nate Samson made the last out of the game by grounding to shortstop.
RJ Martinez (5-3) earned the win--his first as a starter this year. The Goldeyes lefty went 5 2/3 innings, issued one hit, two runs (both earned). He walked six and fanned four. Holmberg lasted five innings (plus), allowed five hits, six runs (five earned) while walking three and striking out two.
The Goldeyes have won three-of-their last four and will try for the three-game sweep on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Shaw Park. The probable for Lincoln is right-hander Zach Keenan (3-4) against Winnipeg left-hander Travis Seabrooke (5-5).
GOLDEYES SCALES
It was Murphy's ninth three-hit game this season. Max has three games this year of at least four RBIs, all against Lincoln. His five-RBI game against the Saltdogs was in Lincoln on June 26th.
The six walks allowed by RJ Martinez match James Varela for most by a Goldeyes this season.
Croes string of five straight multi-hit games came to an end but he finished 1-3 with a single, walk, run scored and three RBIs. He's hit safely in his last six games (11-24, .458), and has hits in 15-of-his-last-16 (25-63, .397). His .350 mark is third best in the American Association. Wednesday was his third three-RBI game this season.
Reliever Josh Vincent made his third appearance back from a six-week stay on the injured list. It was his first game on the mound at Shaw Park since June 9th against Kansas City. He pitched two shutout innings.

WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced Monday the re-signing of right-handed relief pitcher Derrick Cherry . Cherry was one of the most reliable arms out of the Goldeyes bullpen in 2025, appearing in 40 games while posting a 3-1 record with a 4.09 earned run average. He also recorded career highs in strikeouts (62) and innings pitched (66.0). He made his professional debut in 2024 with the Rocky Mountain Vibes of the Pioneer League, where he appeared in 25 contests, including five starts. He compiled a 2-5 record with a 7.97 ERA and one save, based out of a very hitter-friendly ballpark in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The 25-year-old transferred to McNeese State University (Lake Charles, Louisiana) to finish his collegiate career in 2023 after three seasons at the University of Houston (Houston, Texas). His overall college record was 7-8 with a 5.07 ERA and ten saves. The native of Baytown, Texas averaged just under a strikeout per inning pitched. “Derrick is another huge re-signing for us,” said Goldeyes manager Logan Watkins . “There were big portions of last season where he was probably our best reliever. A native of Bondurant, Iowa, Waterhouse has spent the past several seasons pitching in the Pioneer League, most recently with the Rocky Mountain Vibes. Splitting time with the Vibes and the Boise Hawks in 2025, he compiled a 1-4 record over 38 appearances (3 starts) with a 6.83 earned run average. In total over his three professional seasons, he has tallied a 5-11 record in 113 games with a 6.57 ERA. Waterhouse made his professional debut in 2023 with the Ogden Raptors after playing at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (Edwardsville, Illinois) for three seasons (2020-22) and one (2023) at Lamar University (Beaumont, Texas). “We are really excited to get Quinn on board,” said Goldeyes skipper Logan Watkins. “He’s a younger guy with electric stuff. WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced Monday that infielder Ramón Bramasco has re-signed with the club for the upcoming American Association season. Bramasco (pronounced bruh-MAW-sco) hit a team-best .289 in 2025, with seven home runs and 51 runs batted in. He also led the team in hits (108), walks (63), and games played (96). After his standout season, he was named the Pepsi Goldeyes Player of the Year. A native of Bellflower, California, Bramasco joined the Goldeyes in 2024 and played 77 games, hitting .286 with 12 doubles, four home runs, and 38 RBI. He was a major contributor during the team’s run to the Miles Wolff Cup Final. Before arriving in Winnipeg, the 28-year-old played two seasons with the Cancún-based Tigres de Quintana Roo of the Mexican Baseball League. Over the 2022 and 2023 campaigns, Bramasco appeared in 78 contests for Quintana Roo, compiling a .222 batting average with four doubles, two home runs, and 22 RBIs. Prior to his professional career, Bramasco attended the University of Washington (Seattle, Washington), where he played three seasons (2019-21). He hit .275 with 21 doubles, four triples, and 46 RBIs in 111 games for the Huskies. “Getting Ramón back was a top priority for us this off-season,” said Goldeyes field boss Logan Watkins. “He’s been one of our most impactful players and leaders these past few years. After signing with the Goldeyes July 8, Bradwell went on to start seven contests and posted a 1-3 record with a 4.61 earned run average. A native of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Bradwell spent four years with the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, British Columbia) before making his professional debut in 2021 with the Québec Capitales of the Frontier League. The 27-year-old played one year with the Capitales before joining the Trois-Rivières Aigles for two seasons. Hailing from Meaford, Ontario, Dobie is the first Canadian player to sign with the Goldeyes for the 2026 season. The 23-year-old will make his professional debut this spring after spending the past four seasons with the University of Dayton (Dayton, Ohio). In 171 games, he posted a .288 batting average with 22 home runs and 115 runs batted in. He also spent one season with the Waterloo Bucks of the summer collegiate Northwoods League. In 30 games with the Bucks, he hit .250 with 12 RBIs. Splitting time between first base, third base, and the outfield, Dobie is a true utility player who can move just about anywhere on the diamond. “The biggest thing we like about him is that he plays multiple positions including catcher,” said Goldeyes field boss Logan Watkins . “I can tell you he's extremely excited and eager to be a member of the Goldeyes. Suárez, a native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, last pitched for the Tri-City Dust Devils, the High-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels. The 26-year-old spent four seasons from 2016 to 2019 in the Dominican Summer League with the DSL Giants, a rookie affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. In 2021, he was signed to the Giants organization and assigned to their Arizona Complex League affiliate. There, Suárez crossed paths and played with Goldeyes 2024 and 2025 catcher, Rob Emery . After spending one more season with the Giants, he was claimed off waivers by the Angels organization and proceeded to spend two seasons in their system, reaching as high as Double-A in 2023 with the Rocket City Trash Pandas. In his career, Suárez has compiled a 17-12 record with a 4.93 earned run average in 152 appearances. “We’re really excited to sign Willian to our team,” said Goldeyes skipper Logan Watkins . “He's a guy who has some solid affiliated experience, and from looking at video of him throwing recent bullpens, you can tell he has electric stuff. Funds raised during the 2025 season are available to registered children’s charities within Manitoba. In 37 appearances (one start) over two college seasons, Colyer posted a 4-1 record with a 3.73 ERA. Millikan made his professional debut in 2025 with the Oakland Ballers of the Pioneer League, where he started 14 contests. He compiled an impressive 7-1 record in what is considered a hitter-friendly circuit. He finished third-best in the league with a 2.12 earned run average, while also ranking seventh in strikeouts with 96, despite starting just 14 games. The 22-year-old played his college career with the University of Pennsylvania, while also spending three seasons playing in the California and New York collegiate summer leagues. In his four years at Penn, Millikan appeared in 29 games, starting 14. In summer collegiate action, he appeared in 23 games, starting six. He compiled a 3-3 record with a 4.47 ERA. “We’re thrilled to have Noah as our first signing for the 2026 season,” said manager Logan Watkins. “He’s coming off a great year with Oakland and has proven he’s ready to make the jump to the American Association. WINNIPEG, MB – Baseball Canada named their roster for the upcoming WBSC Copa América Tuesday. The tournament will take place from November 13-17 in La Chorrera, Panama. The Copa América consists of 12 nations across two groups. Canada will play in Group B with host Panama, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Brazil and Argentina, seeking to become one of the four nations to earn a berth in the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. The announced roster consists of several players from the 2025 Goldeyes’ squad. Relief pitcher and Winnipeg native Ben Onyshko along with starting pitcher Landen Bourassa headline the recent members of the team on the Canadian pitching staff, while first baseman Matthew Warkentin and outfielder Jacob Robson represent the team in the field and at the plate. The roster also features the likes of four players who suited up for Winnipeg in the past, including Evan Grills (2020), Brandon Marklund (2023), Evan Rutckyj (2017), and Nick Trogrlic-Iverson (2024). Canada’s tournament begins November 13 against host nation, Panama. Prior to the tournament, the team will host a three-day training camp in Dunedin, Florida at the Toronto Blue Jays’ Player Development Complex from November 7-10. Group A for the WBSC Copa América consists of nations already qualified for the 2027 games, and features Cuba, Curaçao, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Nicaragua and Venezuela.
