Late Run Lifts Goldeyes Over RedHawks

WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (29-31) pushed across the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning, then slammed the door on the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to secure a thrilling 4-3 victory Sunday afternoon at Blue Cross Park.
With the score tied 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Winnipeg right fielder Max Murphy ripped a comebacker off the leg of Fargo-Moorhead (32-29) reliever Mason Pelio. RedHawks shortstop Aidan Byrne was unable to field the deflection cleanly, allowing Goldeyes left fielder Roby Enríquez to race home from third with the go-ahead run.
Fargo-Moorhead threatened to tie the game in the top of the ninth, putting runners at first and third with one out. Left fielder Andy Nelson then dropped a bunt down the first-base line, but Winnipeg first baseman Kevin García made a perfect flip to catcher Raphaël Pelletier, who tagged RedHawks catcher Tripp Clark just before he reached the plate. Byrne followed with a chopper toward the third-base side of the mound, which Winnipeg third baseman Ramón Bramasco barehanded before firing to García at first to end the ballgame.
The Goldeyes opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Enríquez lifted a sacrifice fly to centre field, allowing Keshawn Lynch to score.
Clark gave Fargo-Moorhead a 2-1 lead in the fourth with a two-run home run to right field with third baseman Matt Kroon aboard. Centre fielder Dillon Thomas then led off the sixth with a solo home run to right, extending the RedHawks’ advantage to 3-1.
Winnipeg pulled to within one in the bottom of the sixth when Bramasco grounded a single to right that scored centre fielder Noah Marcelo. Later in the inning, García singled up the middle to bring Bramasco home and tie the game 3-3.
Willian Suárez (W, 3-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Mitchell Lambson. Suárez worked 2 2/3 hitless innings, striking out three and walking one. Lambson went 5 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out five and walking two. Eli Saul (S, 2) worked a scoreless ninth, surrendering two hits.
Patrick Wicklander started for Fargo-Moorhead and exited after five innings. He allowed three runs—two earned—on four hits. The left-hander struck out five and walked three. Pelio (L, 2-5) was the third reliever used by the RedHawks.
The victory was the Goldeyes’ 800th since joining the American Association in 2011 and the 1,669th since the club’s inaugural season in 1994.
The team now heads to Kansas City, Kansas, for a three-game series against the West Division-leading Kansas City Monarchs that begins Monday at 6:35 p.m. James Bradwell (0-2, 14.11 ERA) is scheduled to start for Winnipeg, while Kansas City has yet to announce its starter for the series opener.

Winnipeg responded in the bottom of the inning when third baseman Ramón Bramasco lined a single to left that drove in left fielder Adam Hall and second baseman Keshawn Lynch , giving the Goldeyes a 2-1 lead. Just four batters into the ballgame, third baseman Matt Kroon singled through the left side of the infield, driving in catcher Juan Fernández to make it 1-0. First baseman Tripp Clark followed with a double to the gap in left-centre field that brought in centre fielder Dillon Thomas. Second baseman Brian Fuentes then hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Kroon, giving the RedHawks a 3-0 lead. Winnipeg (27-31) cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the third inning on a fielder’s choice off the bat of centre fielder Noah Marcelo . First baseman Raphaël Pelletier scored on the play. The RedHawks got that run back in the fourth when Thomas doubled down the right-field line to plate right fielder Denver Blinn, making it 4-1. Shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder doubled to lead off the ballgame and scored on centre fielder Noah Marcelo ’s line drive to centre, making it 1-0. Red-hot third baseman Keshawn Lynch followed with a double off the left-field wall that brought in Marcelo. Two batters later, right fielder Max Murphy plated Lynch with a ground-rule double to right to extend the lead to 3-0. Three batters later, designated hitter Peter Zimmermann hit a two-out, solo shot to right to make the score 2-0. The home half of the sixth inning was eerily similar to the fourth. Catcher Mario Feliciano led off with a home run to right field to stretch the DockHounds’ lead to 3-0 before centre fielder Jake Snider tagged a solo blast to right with two out to give Lake Country a four-run lead. In the bottom of the seventh, left fielder Anthony García smacked a two-out, two-run homer to right field to make the score 6-0 for DockHounds, who lead the American Association with 90 four-baggers on the season. WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (25-26) will enter the All-Star break on a four-game winning streak after defeating the Gary SouthShore RailCats 8-5 at Blue Cross Park Sunday afternoon. Boxscore Winnipeg took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when designated hitter Keshawn Lynch doubled into the left-field corner, scoring third baseman Ramón Bramasco and second baseman Adam Hall . The Goldeyes added a run in the second on a solo home run to left-centre by shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder . It was his third in as many games and tenth of the season, tying him with centre fielder Noah Marcelo for the team lead. Gary SouthShore (22-30) got on the board in the top of the third inning when shortstop Elvis Peralta hit a two-out solo home run to left field, trimming Winnipeg’s lead to 3-1. Right fielder Max Murphy brought Lynch home with a base hit to left in the bottom of the sixth to give the Goldeyes a three-run cushion. The RailCats made it a two-run game shortly thereafter when centre fielder Korry Howell hit a solo home run to right-centre in the top of the seventh. Winnipeg scored four times in the bottom of the frame to take an 8-2 lead. Bramasco’s bloop single to right-centre drove in left fielder Roby Enríquez . Marcelo lined a base hit to left-centre to plate Didder, and Hall singled up the middle to bring in Bramasco and Marcelo. The visitors did not go quietly, however. Left fielder Kevin Watson Jr. hit a two-run home run to left in the eighth, and designated hitter Marc Flores followed with a solo home run to left in the ninth that cut the Goldeyes’ lead to 8-5. Winnipeg closer Derrick Cherry (S, 8) ensured the RailCats got no closer. Ryo Kohigashi (W, 4-2) allowed one run on five hits over six innings of work. He struck out seven and walked four. The left-hander pitched out of trouble on several occasions, benefiting from an inning-ending double play in the second while stranding three RailCats in the fourth and two more in the fifth. WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (24-26) won their third consecutive game Saturday evening, defeating the Gary SouthShore RailCats 11-4 at Blue Cross Park. Boxscore Gary SouthShore (22-29) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when catcher Colin Summerhill tripled to the gap in left-centre to drive in shortstop Elvis Peralta. Winnipeg responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Designated hitter Adam Hall tied the contest with an infield single that brought third baseman Ramón Bramasco in to score. Centre fielder Noah Marcelo then came in on a fielder’s choice off the bat of second baseman Keshawn Lynch , giving the Goldeyes a 2-1 lead. Before the inning was over, catcher Raphaël Pelletier extended the lead with a base hit to left field that plated Hall. In the top of the second, the RailCats drew even at 3-3 after left fielder Kevin Watson Jr. hit a solo home run to left and first baseman Camryn Williams scored on centre fielder Korry Howell’s fielder’s choice. Shortstop Ray-Patrick Didder gave Winnipeg a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the inning with a two-run homer to left that also scored right fielder Roby Enríquez . It was Didder’s ninth long ball of the season and second in two nights. Hall led off the bottom the third inning with a home run to left – his second of the season – extending the Goldeyes’ lead to 6-3. Winnipeg made it 9-3 in the fifth when Pelletier hit a two-out, three-run home run to right field, also his second of the campaign. Marcelo and left fielder Jiandido Tromp were on base ahead of Pelletier. Gary SouthShore got one run back in the top of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly to right field by Peralta. Williams scored on the play to reduce the Goldeyes’ lead to 9-4. The game’s final two runs came in the bottom of the same inning on a triple to left-centre field by Enríquez that drove in Lynch and Tromp to make it 11-4. Kevin Vaupel (W, 2-3) started for Winnipeg and went six innings. He allowed three runs – two earned – on five hits while striking out four and issuing four free passes. Weston Lombard , James Bradwell , Willian Suárez , and Eli Saul appeared out of the bullpen for the Goldeyes. The four relievers allowed just three hits over the final three innings. Deyni Olivero (L, 3-5) surrendered six runs on nine hits over three innings. He struck out a pair and did not walk a batter. Once again, the Goldeyes’ bats were hot, banging out 16 hits. Six players had multi-hit games, including Marcelo, Lynch, and Pelletier, who recorded three each. Pelletier drove in four runs. The series concludes Sunday at 1:00 p.m. with southpaw Ryo Kohigashi (3-2, 3.75 ERA) starting for Winnipeg. The RailCats will counter with right-hander Dominic Cancellieri (2-5, 7.42 ERA).
