WINNIPEG, MB – The American Association announced Tuesday that Winnipeg Goldeyes infielder Matthew Warkentin and outfielder Max Murphy were chosen as starters for the West Division squad at the league’s upcoming All-Star Game. Pitchers Tasker Strobel and Ryder Yakel were also selected as members of the West Division pitching staff. In his first season with the Goldeyes, Warkentin has made his mark in his home country. The Windsor, Ontario native ranks first among all West Division first basemen in home runs (11) and RBI (36) while also recording a batting average of .290. The 28-year-old slugger joined the Goldeyes for the 2025 season after two productive seasons with the Joliet Slammers of the Frontier League. This is Murphy’s second All-Star nod as a member of the Goldeyes, previously being selected in 2023. Warkentin hit .500 over six games, with five doubles, two home runs, and eight runs batted in. He has recently improved his batting average to .293 and leads the club with ten home runs. The 28-year-old is tied for the team lead with 12 doubles and is second in RBIs with 34. The native of Windsor, Ontario was obtained from the Frontier League’s Ottawa Titans April 10 in exchange for a player to be named later. Warkentin spent the previous two campaigns with the Joliet Slammers of the Frontier League, where he belted a combined 51 home runs and led the circuit with 83 RBIs in 2024 en route to being named the league’s All-Star first baseman.
