Leatherman On His Way Back To Organized Ball

Add Dan Leatherman to the growing list of players headed from Winnipeg back to Major League organizations.

Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today that the Washington Nationals had acquired the pitcher’s contract, making him the 51st player picked up from the Goldeyes by a Major League club.

Leatherman, 22, was signed on April 1 following two years in the Twins system. Signed by Minnesota out of an open tryout at the Metrodome following his junior year at NCAA Div. I West Virginia, he is a career 11-5 with a 2.98 ERA in 70 appearances, including a 7-4 mark with a 3.89 ERA last year with Beloit of the Midwest (A) League.

Winnipeg now has 28 players on its spring training roster, 15 of whom are position players. Training camp opens at 11 a.m. Thursday at Canwest Park.
