Fans of the long ball should like what they see at Canwest Park this summer.
Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the signing of outfielder Kevin West (right). Adding his 12 home runs to the 21 hit by Walter Young and the 17 hit by Tydus Meadows, the heart of Winnipeg’s new order connected for 50 bombs in 2007.
West, 28, is a nine-year veteran with a .273 career average, adding 127 homers while driving in 589 runs in 1,012 games. He has spent the last five seasons at the AA and AAA levels, hitting double digits in home runs each year.
Joining West as a newcomer is pitcher Ivan Blanco, 24, who brings seven years of experience in the Seattle system. A career 21-8 with a 4.12 earned run average, Blanco can start or pitch in relief.
Forney also announced the return of reliever Dan Ziegler. A late-season acquisition last year, Ziegler went 0-0 with a 9.35 ERA in six appearances. He also saw action in three games as an outfielder, batting .250 with a pair of doubles and four runs scored.
Winnipeg’s roster now stands at 21. Training camp opens May 1. |
