Baseball Scholarships
The Winnipeg Goldeyes are proud to support the Manitoba Baseball
Association and have established three $1,000 scholarships to
be awarded annually.
These scholarships will be awarded to members of the Manitoba
Baseball Association who are continuing with post-secondary education
and will be maintaining their involvement in the baseball community.
Scholarships will be awarded based on an individual's baseball
ability, academics and service to their community.

On August 23, 2007, three $1000 Field of Dreams Foundation Scholarships
were awarded to recipients Brett Schreyer, Brenden Sommerhalder and Kiel Armstrong.
The scholarships were awarded prior to the Goldeyes game at

Here are this year's recipients...
Brett Schreyer: Brett will be attending his first of four years at the Southwestern College in Iowa. He will be pursuing an Associate Arts Business Education degree. Brett has played baseball since he was seven years old. This past year he was co-captain of the Selkirk Royals High School team and received ‘Most valuable player’ for 2007. He has played with the North Winnipeg Pirates from 2003-2007 including instructing the younger players in the Hit*Run*Throw program. In 2007 Brett also played with the Elmwood Giants Juniors who were this years’ Provincial Champions and just returned from Baseball Canada’s National Championship in Quebec City.
Brenden Sommerhalder: Brenden is entering his third year at the University of Winnipeg. He is pursuing his Masters and eventually PhD in the field of Industrial/Organizational Psychology. This past year he played with the Park City Midget team in the absence of a River East Junior team. He also took on the role of Umpire assignor for the Red River Valley Sports League, during which he not only assigned all of the games, but also recruited and helped train and develop twenty one new first year umpires in the league. Brenden was awarded the "Youth Umpire of the Year" in 2004 and is currently a Level III umpire in the Winnipeg "AAA" league. He is continuing to strive for his Level IV umpiring certification and hopes to represent Manitoba at a National Championship in the future.
Kiel Armstrong: Keil just graduated from the Vauxhall Academy of Baseball in Vauxhall, Alberta and has been accepted to the Criminal Justice Program at Lethbridge Community College. He will be playing baseball with the Prairie Baseball Academy during his studies. Kiel has played for the Winnipeg South Chiefs who were Provincial Champions in 2001 and 2005. As well, he played for Team Manitoba in 2005 and 2006 at the Baseball Canada Cup. In 2007, Kiel played with the St. Boniface Legionnaires Junior AAA team that has just returned from the Western Canadian Championships in Moose Jaw, SK. Kiel’s goal is to take his career as far as he can and then finish by coaching older teenagers and share his experience and knowledge.
