Goldeyes Team Up With Heart & Stroke Foundation To Raise
Money In 50th Anniversary Year
Goldeyes fans looking to keep their ears warm can do so and
help the fight against heart disease and stroke at the same time.
In partnership with the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba
in its 50th anniversary year, the Goldeyes will begin selling
red toques on February 1 to coincide with the beginning of Heart
Month. The toques are available at the Canwest Park merchandise
store, the Heart & Stroke Foundation offices in Winnipeg
and Brandon, all Boston Pizza locations in Manitoba, St. Vital
Centre and at the Ironman Outdoor Curling Bonspiel that runs
this weekend at The Forks.
"We're very pleased to team up with the Heart & Stroke
Foundation to commemorate a very significant anniversary," said
Goldeyes general manager Andrew Collier. "By doing so, not
only do we get to sell an attractive winter merchandise item,
but, at the same time, we help to raise money and awareness for
an organization that has been a very important member of the
community for 50 years."
The toque, which sells for $15 (taxes included) with $5 from
each one sold going to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, has a
Goldeyes script logo on the front while the back features the
wording Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba below the foundation's
50th anniversary logo.
"Ten Manitobans die every day from heart disease and stroke.
Partnerships with community organizations such as the Goldeyes
are working to help us change that statistic," said
Heart
and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba CEO Debbie Brown. "Every
Manitoban that buys a toque is helping us achieve our mission
to eliminate heart disease and stroke and reduce
their impact
through the advancement of research and its application, the
promotion of
healthy living and advocacy."
Heart disease and stroke are the number one cause of disability
and death in Manitoba and Canada. Almost 40 per cent of Canadians
will develop some form of heart disease or stroke.
Volunteer canvassers will go door-to door in Manitoba in February
as the Heart & Stroke Foundation has set a fundraising goal
of $778,000 for its residential campaign, a jump of $26,000 from
2006, when $753,000 was raised.
